Area roundup - Burke leads Tri-State juniors

JUNIOR GOLF



Andrew Burke fired a 72 for the best score of the day as the Tri-State Junior Golf Association competed on Monday at Fountain Head Country Club.

Burke won the 16-18 age group by one shot over Kevin Reiber and Sam Harrison.

Clayton Rotz came in with a 78 to notch first place in the 14-15 division ahead of Kevin Kline's 83 and Graham North's 84.

Winning in a playoff, Tyler Straub bested Alex Hoffman in the 12-13 group after both shot an 83. Tyler Ausherman was in the hunt with an 84.

Brunswick 9, Hagerstown 2


BRUNSWICK, Md. - Kevin Goode had two hits, including a three-run homer, for Brunswick as the Orioles defeated the Hagerstown Braves.

Winning pitcher Joey Hart threw a four-hitter with six strikeouts, while Jason Mobley had two hits, including a solo homer, Doug Stottlemyer doubled twice and Brad Lowe and Gerrad Talkington each had two hits for the Orioles (16-4).

Jimmy Jackson pitched four innings for the Braves (20-2) in the loss.




JUNIOR LEGION BASEBALL



Funkstown 16, Williamsport 14: Matt Murray had two home runs, including a grand slam, and six RBI for Funkstown. Trevor Cobb had three hits and drove in three runs, while A.J. Bandeff and Jordan Beard each had two hits for Funkstown (11-4). Tyler Beard, Scott Keeney and Matt Fortese each had two hits for Williamsport.

Hagerstown PONY League


Hagerstown Floors 12, F&M 11: Aaron Dixon had three hits, including the game-winning single, while Brandon Rohrer had two hits, including a home run, Adam Flook hit a three-run homer and Tyson Palmer had two hits for Hagerstown Floors. Kenny Shanholtz and Kyle Kane both had three hits and Tim Jacobson added two, while Shanholtz homered twice, Tim Cole hit a three-run home run and Kane and Jacobson each homered for F&M.

Maryland District 1 9-10 Tournament


Valley 13, Oakland 5: Winning pitcher Zane Garber threw a complete-game four-hitter, while Jack Schwartz and Aaron Schroyer each had two hits for Valley. Jacob Scheffel had two hits for Oakland.

National 14, West End 4: Trevor Haupt had three hits and Brandon Burnett added two for National. Aaron Stoner had two hits for West End.

Maugansville 22, Conococheague 16: Andrew Twigg and Bo Price had two hits each for Conococheague.

Wash. Co. Girls Softball


High School Division


Aladdin Awards 16, Middletown Sportsland 1: Christine Line went 4-for-5, Kara Williamson had three hits and Christina Embly added two for Aladdin.

ACE 15, Redmen 6: Leslie Brown went 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Dee Brown had two hits and two RBI, Ashley Creek had three hits and two RBI and Morgan Brown had three RBI for ACE. Jessa Pedsy ahd two hits for Redmen.

Lightning Transportation 33, Rotary 7: Lindsay Kline, Courtney Hutchinson and Amy Clipp each had three hits and Emily Sirface had two to lead the winners. Lightning Transportation had four home runs, two by Kline and one each by Erin Donohue and Sirface.

Emmitsburg 11-12 Tournament


Smithsburg 6, Fairfield 5: J.P. Steich, Josh Conway and Tyler Burgan had two hits each and Chris Pitsnogle homered for Smithsburg.

Conococheague Minor League


Moose 9, M&T Bank 6: Hunter Eyler had two hits for Moose.

Four Star Athletic Complex 16, ARCC of Wash. Co. 0: Chad Seacrest went 3-for-5 with three home runs, while Rob Rubisch went 5-for-5 and drove in four and Marshall Moats went 4-for-5 with three RBI for Four Star.

Bill Baisey Kia 13, Covenant Life Church 1: Donnie Blickenstaff went 3-for-3, Jeff Barnhart added three hits and Sherry Kane had two hits for Kia.

Deafnet 11, Keefer's Lawn Care 10: Art Mowbray went 2-for-3 with three RBI for Deafnet. Davey Stouffer went 3-for-4 with a home run, and Laurie Barnes went 3-for-4 for Keefer's.

New Life 19, Concordia 8: Jim Delosh had five hits, while Jeb Bauer and Dwayne Dawson each homered for New Life.

Tri-State 17, Otterbein 8: Kevin Walters and Donny Maas had three hits apiece for Otterbein.

Virginia Ave. 18, Crossroads Green 5: Greg Sellers and Greg Trimmer each had three hits for Virginia Ave. David Bake had five hits for Crossroads.

Five Forks 21, Crossroads Tan 11: Ryan Hunsbarger had four hits and Dew Eby had four hits, including a home run, for Five Forks. Dave Davis homered for Crossroads.

Jerry's Sports 20, B.J./Broadax 10: Todd Ricker and Mark Shives each had four hits and a homer for Jerry's. Dave Foltz, Scott Richer, Scott Shupp and Pudge Eby each had three hits for Jerry's. Pork Wallech had a home run for B.J./Broadax.
