Boys &Girls Club to host graduation


The Boys & Girls Club will host a graduation ceremony for the youth leader participants of the Tomorrow's Leaders Program today at 6 p.m. at the Bethel Gardens Community Center at 356 Henry Ave.

Funding for the Tomorrow's Leaders Program was made possible by the Washington County Community Partnership through the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention's Neighborhood Initiative Grant. The program was a community-designed and -driven initiative that was held at the Bethel Gardens Community Center Monday and Wednesday evenings since February.

The program was offered to 15 people between the ages of 14 and 18 residing in the Jonathan Street public housing units and the surrounding area.




Corvette Clubs' annual show here in August


The National Council of Corvette Clubs Inc. will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Corvette at its 44th annual convention in Hagerstown, hosted by the East Region of the National Council of Corvette Clubs.

The convention will be held Aug. 15-21 at the Clarion Hotel. About 700 people are expected for the event, with about 225 Corvettes to be on display.

The Four Points Hotel, Comfort Suites and Hampton Inn on the Dual Highway also will host attendees.

A day pass is required for entry into the daytime events, unless otherwise noted. Day passes cost $35 each and can be bought at the Clarion Convention Center from 7:30 to 9 a.m. during the convention.

A 50th anniversary parade of Corvettes will be at the Long Meadow Shopping Center Aug. 17 at 4 p.m. The parade will move down Potomac Street.

Also on Aug. 17, Hoffman Chevrolet and the Gettysburg Corvette Club will host the Concours and People's Choice events from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday's events are free to the public.

The Corvettes will be in action on Aug. 18 and 19 during the high- and low-speed events at Summit Point (W.Va.) Raceway from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A day pass is required for entry into the event as a spectator.

On Aug. 20, Corvettes will participate in drag races hosted by the Bel Air Corvette Club at the Mason Dixon Dragway on U.S. 40 south of Hagerstown. Elimination will be by brackets. A day pass is required for entry into the event as a spectator.
