MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A 25-year-old migrant died early Saturday morning after being hit by a car on Interstate 81, West Virginia State Police said.

Police identified the man from his green card as Abraham S. Silva.

Anyone who knows him is asked to call police at 1-304-267-0001 and ask for Senior Trooper T.L. Lind.

At 3:37 a.m., Lind was on his way to check out a report of an intoxicated person walking on Interstate 81 when he saw a group of cars pulled over on I-81 south near the Tabler Station Road exit.

Lind stopped and saw the man face down in the center of the highway, unable to respond to questions.

Lind said he smelled a strong odor of alcohol.

Berkeley County and South Berkeley volunteer emergency medical service volunteers gave the man aid, but he died of head trauma before the ambulance left the scene, police said.

Richard Beverly, whose name and address were not released Saturday, was identified by police as the driver of the Lincoln Town Car that hit Silva.

Beverly told police the man was walking near the center line of the southbound lanes.

Police are still investigating the accident.
