Fairplay woman hurtin mobile home fire

FAIRPLAY - A Fairplay woman was taken to Washington County Hospital on Friday night after a fire in the mobile home where she lived.

Shelly Homes, 46, was suffering smoke information following the 10:23 p.m. fire, which gutted the mobile home at 7825 Sharpsburg Pike, said Funkstown Fire Chief Jonathan Gift.

When firefighters arrived, they found fire in the front section of the mobile home, Gift said. The fire was under control in about 20 minutes.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office was being called to investigate the cause of the fire, Gift said.

Firefighters from Fairplay, Sharpsburg, Boonsboro, Funkstown and Williamsport helped fight the blaze.

Virginia woman hurt in interstate accident

A Virginia woman was injured when her car overturned on Interstate 70 just after 10 p.m. Friday night, Maryland State Police said.


Amanda Ann Biedrzycki, 23, was taken by ambulance to Washington County Hospital, police said. The extent of her injuries was not known.

Police said witnesses reported seeing a Toyota Corolla westbound on I-70 just west of the Downsville Pike exit cross the median and overturn several times. The car landed upright in the eastbound lane with its front end resting against the guardrail.

No further information was available Friday night.

Man hospitalized after cycle crash

A man was taken to Washington County Hospital with a head injury Friday morning after a motorcycle accident on westbound Interstate 70 at Md. 66, according to emergency dispatch information.

A dispatcher said the man was taken as a "priority one" patient, which indicates the most severe injuries.

The accident occurred at about 8:33 as the rider was merging onto I-70 from Md. 66.

Maryland State Police investigated the accident, but could not provide further information Friday.

Md. man faces drug charges after stop

FREDERICK, Md. - A Brunswick, Md., man faces drug charges after a police officer allegedly found seven small bags of suspected marijuana in a car during a traffic stop, police said.

Erick Stack, 19, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding, the Frederick County Sheriff's Office said.

A passenger, Keith Reynolds, 22, of Brunswick, Md., was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Stack's car was stopped on Petersville Road at 5:56 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Hagerstown police investigate thefts

Hagerstown City Police received the following calls Thursday:

  • A 1987 Chrysler Fifth Avenue was reported stolen from the 200 block of Rowland Avenue at about 3:30 p.m.

    Police said the title had been taken from the home, and the license tags had been left inside the home.

  • On the 4 p.m. to midnight shift, a radio was reported taken from inside a 1989 Ford F150 pickup truck in the 500 block of Indiana Avenue. No damage or value information was available.

Burkittsville fire damages log home

BURKITTSVILLE, Md. - An accidental fire caused $15,000 damage to a log cabin-style home Wednesday evening, the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said.

Investigators believe the fire started due to an unexplained failure of electrical service to the house.

The fire was reported at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday in the roof of 7219 Mountain Church Road, which is owned by George and Joyce Bode, the fire marshal's office said.

Firefighters from Middletown, Jefferson, Braddock Heights, Myersville and Boonsboro responded.

Damage was estimated at $10,000 to the structure and $5,000 to the contents.
