Brunswick 8 Waynesboro 1

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Marc Atkins pitched a seven-hitter and Kevin Goode hit a bases-loaded triple to lead Brunswick over Waynesboro.

Goode had two hits and Wayne Toms added a pair for Brunswick (15-3).

Dave McIntire homered for Waynesboro, while Regan Smith had two hits.

Wednesday, Brunswick hammered Chambersburg, 10-2. Ryan Lipscomb allowed three hits and struck out six while Steve Goode had three hits.


Hoffman wins qualifier

BOWIE, Md. - Hagerstown's Alex Hoffman won the 11-year-old division at the U.S. Kids Golf Maryland Qualifier at Bowie Country Club on Wednesday to earn a spot in the U.S. Kids Golf World Championships in Williamsburg, Va., July 31 to Aug. 2.

Hoffman shot a 76 for 18 holes, outdistancing runner-up Sean Bosdosh, of Montgomery County, by nine strokes.

Pensis hits hole-in-one

Drew Pensis hit a hole-in-one at Yingling's Golf Center, using a sand wedge to ace the 85-yard first hole. Tracy Leather witnessed it.



Winchester 12, Williamsport Senators 6: Corey Itnyre, Tyler Beard and Leo Schill each had two hits for Williamsport.


Halfway Minor tourney

Carquest 12, UAW 11: Winning pitcher Chad Beane, Nick Martin and Jimmy Klick had two hits each for Carquest, as it advanced to the championship game. Austin Marquis, Tyler Grimsley and Jordan Crilly had two hits apiece for UAW.

West End Little League

VFW 8, Elks 4: Becky Smith, Casey Shifler and Dustin Rowland each had two hits for VFW. Jake Turner had two hits for Elks.

Valley Little League

F&M 8, Post 211 4: Brett Rosenthal had three hits and three RBI for F&M Bank, while Matt Rummel and Aaron Keene each had two hits. Ryan Hogue had two hits for Post 211.

Conococheague Minor

Reid's 16, Yankees 9: Tyler Nally, Evan Hardy and Robbie Willis each had three hits for Reid's, while Sterling Christy and Jeremy Eckert each had two hits. Brooke Brechbill had two hits for Yankees.

Halfway Little League

Hoffman Auto 9, Gehr 4: Andrew Duff had three hits, including a home run, for Hoffman Auto, while Kyle Orndorff had a home run and Aaron Stotelmyer added two hits. Chris McSherry had two hits for Gehr.

Hagerstown PONY

F&M 7, Elks 5: Kyle Kane had three hits for F&M, while Todd Jacobsen and Kenny Shanholtz both had two hits, including a home runs. Scott Myers hit a two-run homer for Elks.

B.J.'s Custom Creations/Night Life Entertainment 15, Coors Light 5: Eric Andrews, Eric Leather, Jeff Foltz and Terry Martin each had three hits for B.J.'s Custom Creations. Eric Leather and Pork Wallach each had home runs.

Miller Lite/Broad Axe 21, S.L. Woodring 7: Greg McCoy had four hits for Miller Lite/Broad Axe, while Calvin Staubs, Terry Martin, Pork Wallach and Jimmy Taylor had three hits each. McCoy and Jeff Foltz each homered.

Hagerstown Church

St. James 22, Tri-State 16: Brad Moore had six hits and Alan Moore had four for St. James. Chuck Smith had four hits for Tri-State.

Christ Lutheran 17, Concordia 15: Jeff Kelley hit for the cycle for Christ Lutheran, while Jenna Koontz had four hits and Jody Koontz, Mike Fitzgerald and Don Wilson each added three hits. Mike Jorgensen homered, while Jan Poole and Eric Arvidson each had four hits for Concordia.

Otterbein 18, Smithsburg Valley 14: Mike Buhrman and Kirk Graham each had three hits and Nick Maas homered for Otterbein. Jamie Miller hit three homers for Smithsburg Valley, while Abraham Boyd and Jeff Barr each had three hits.

Williamsport AOG 30, St. Joseph's 12: John Buchanan had eight hits for Williamsport, while Mike Trumpower and Nate Jordan had six hits each and Jason Barney added four. Trumpower and Barney each homered.

St. Mark's 27, Bethel 24: Mark Kretzer had seven hits, while Russ Weaver and Pat Fraser each added five for St. Mark's.

Five Forks 28, New Life 21: Keith Martin had four hits, including a home run, and Toby Gift doubled twice and added two homers for Five Forks. Steve Pryor had six hits and John Davidson added five for New Life.
