GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Deron Crawford allowed one run on five hits in five innings of work, as the Hagerstown Braves topped host Greencastle 4-1 on Wednesday.

Pat Sweeney and Mike Kipe each had two hits for the Braves (19-1, 18-1), while Billy Keyes pitched two innings of one-hit ball for the save.


Grier falls in match play

PINEHURST, N.C. - Hagerstown's Ashley Grier lost in the first round of match play at the 101st USGA North-South Women's Amateur on the famed Pinehurst No. 2 course.

The Smithsburg graduate was knocked from the competition by second-seeded Kristen White, of Doylestown, Pa., 5 & 4.

Grier was only one down through five holes before losing on holes 6, 9, 10 and 14.


Funkstown 13, Williamsport 2: Matt Murray had three hits, including two three-run homer, and eight RBI to lead Funkstown. A.J. Bandeff had three hits, while Orland Dean and Patrick Hutzler each added two for Funkstown (8-4). Corey Itnyre homered for Williamsport.



Hagerstown PONY League

Eagles 13, UAW 12: Kyle Beers hit a three-run homer to lead Eagles. Chad Bikle had three home runs for UAW.

UAW 12, Eagles 7: Kyle Cunningham and Justin Bussard each had three hits, while Steve McKimmy added two to lead UAW. Brandon Norris led Eagles with two hits.

Hagerstown Floors 16, Redmen 6: Adam Merrbaugh had a pair of hits, including a home run, and struck out 10 to lead Hagerstown Floors. Aaron Dixon had three hits and Pat Mertz and Corey Baker each had two hits for Hagerstown. Nick Bodnar hit a two-run home run for Redmen.

Hagerstown Colt League

FOP 8, Eagles 7: Justin Marshall doubled in two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game for FOP, while Derek Klingerman hit a bases-loaded triple. George Comegeys had three hits for Eagles.

South Mountain Little League

Post 10 13, Thompson's Gas 3: Kyle Grove and Blake Roberts had two hits each to lead Post 10. Travis Thomas and Ryan Lewis each had doubles for Thompson's Gas.

Conococheague Minor League

M&T 16, Neikierk's 6: Ricky Long had two hits, including an inside-the-park grand slam, to lead M&T. Tyler Habert added two hits in the victory.

Capitol Building Supply 8, Weller's Collision 7: Emily Myers tripled and scored twice for Capitol.

Capitol 8, AHI 3: Jessica Bennett had two hits and struck out 11 for Capitol.

Capitol 10, Taylor's Sluggers 2: Bennett and Kalli Rexrode doubled for Capitol.

Championship Game

Capitol 7, AHI 6: Hanna Cole walked in Bennett with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game and the championship for Capitol, while Myers doubled twice and drove in three runs.

High School Division

ACE 18, Lightning Transportation 5: Leslie Brown and Ashley Creek each had three hits, while Dee Brown had two hits and three RBI and Chris Creek tripled and drove in three for ACE. Courtney Hutchinson had two hits for Lightning Transportation.

Aladdin Awards 28, Longmeadow Rotary 2: Christina Embly had three hits, including two home runs, to lead Aladdin. Misty Marker and Jess Marshall each had three hits, while Christine Line, Heather White, Brittany Kretzer and Caitlin Huntsberger each had two hits in the win.

West End Little League

VFW 21, Coca-Cola 20: Casey Shifler hit a grand slam while Becky Smith, Dustin Rowland and Cody Murray each had two hits for VFW. Sean Koontz had two hits, including a home run, while Dwight Boward, Preston Smith and Brooks Schlotterbeck also had two hits each for Coca-Cola.

American Little League

Funkstown 11, Goodwill 0: Nick Martin, Billy Springirph, Eric Campbell, George Casper each had two hits, while Robert Warnick had three hits and Dee Stubbs homered for Funkstown. Casper, Warnick and Campbell combined to pitch a one-hitter with nine strikeouts.

Elks 5, Thompson's 4: Tyler Ernde had three hits for Elks. Nick Stubbs and Darryl Ward each had two hits for Thompson's.

Halfway Little League

Gehr 6, Gibney's 3: Brandon McCauley pitched a three-hitter and added two hits and three RBI, while Dylan Zimmerman had three hits and Jacob Ramsey had two for Gehr. Josh Cline had two hits for Gibney's.

Halfway Minor League tourney

Virginia Ave. Shell 15, Hopewell 9: Joseph Garrish, Chris Allen and Nick Jamison combined to strike out 15 for Shell, while Garrish and Jamison each had two hits. Caleb Jernigan had two hits for Hopewell.

Carquest 12, UAW 11: Winning pitcher Chad Beane, Nick Martin and Jimmy Glick had two hits each for Carquest as it advanced to the championhip. Austin Marquis, Tyler Grimsley and Jordan Crilly had two hits apiece for UAW.

Dell Baisey Kia 9, Martinsburg All Sport 3: Jeff Barnhart, Cindy Barnhart and Donny Blickenstaff each had two hits, while Mike Green had five RBI for Kia.

Dell Baisey Kia 12, Minnich's Plumbing 1: Donny Blickenstaff went 3-for-3 and Crystal Osborne had two hits for Kia.


Beaver Creek to host 20th Buick Scramble

Beaver Creek Country Club will be hosting the 20th Buick Scramble local championship on Sunday.

The winning teams will advance to the Sectional Championships later this summer, and possibly to the National Championships to be held in Orlando, Fla. in the fall, where Tiger Woods will present the winning trophies.

Four-person teams can sign up for the event until Saturday. Entry fees are $50 per person. The cost includes cart, green fee and a variety of gifts.
