Police investigating fire that destroyed Hardee's

June 24, 2003

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal's Division was investigating a Sunday morning fire that destroyed the Hardee's restaurant at 9966 Molly Pitcher Highway.

The cause of the 4:45 a.m. fire was undetermined, according to a report issued by the West End Fire and Rescue Co. The first engine arrived shortly after the fire was called in and firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the roof at the rear of the building.

Shortly after 5 a.m., firefighters inside the building were withdrawn because of concerns about the restaurant's roof collapsing. The fire was brought under control shortly before 6 a.m., according to the fire company report.

Units from the Vigilant Hose and Cumberland Valley Hose companies in Shippensburg assisted at the scene as well as firefighters from the Franklin, Pleasant Hall, Fayetteville and Walnut Bottom fire companies, according to the West End Fire and Rescue incident report.
