Smithsburg school plans art camp

June 23, 2003

Eighteen Smithsburg Middle School students will take part in an art camp at the school the week of July 14.

Funding for the camp came from the school's PTA, along with a $500 grant from former Washington County School Board of Education member B. Marie Byers. She presented the grant in the name of Lee Weaver, who is retiring this year after an extensive career as an art instructor in the Washington County Public School system.

The school's art teacher, Sandy Hays, has coordinated activities that include linoleum block printing, outdoor watercolors, work with clay and a field trip to a local art supply store. Hays will be assisted by two high school students.
