Joseph R. Wishard

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Joseph R. Wishard, 67, of 416 W. Eighth St., died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at his home.

Born May 12, 1936, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Clarence R. and Pauline N. Birely Wishard.

He was a 1954 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School. He received a degree in business organization and management from Hagerstown Junior College in 1963. From 1965 to 1969, he studied in the IBEW Electrician Joint Apprenticeship Training Program in Harrisburg, Pa. He took business management, leadership training and basic computer courses.

He was employed in the machine inspection department of Litton Automation Systems of Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro, from 1979 to 1996.

He served in the Waynesboro National Guard. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro, was a graduate of the Lutheran Catechetical Course and was active in church organizations and committees.


He was a member of William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695 of Waynesboro; Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15 of Waynesboro; a former member of Eagles Club and Fish and Game Association, both of Waynesboro; and the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Ilene Bryan Wishard, whom he married Nov. 22, 1958; one daughter, Carla R. Grove of Waynesboro; and two grandchildren, Erin M. Ramsey and Tyler P. Grove, both of Waynesboro.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. The Rev. Henry K. Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, with military honors by the Honor Guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 of Chambersburg.

There will be no public viewing; the family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Michelle K. Watson

HUSTONTOWN, Pa. - Michelle K. Watson, 47, of 437 Pitt St., died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born Feb. 21, 1956, in McConnellsburg, she was the daughter of Hope P. McFarland Sponsler of Harrisonville, Pa. and the late Wayne Sponsler.

She was the secretary and treasurer of Sea Legs Inc. in Virginia Beach, Va.

She served in the U.S. Army.

She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrisonville.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, W. R. Watson III, whom she married Oct. 1, 1983; one daughter, Nicole L. Longacre of Elkton, Md.; one son, Brandon W. Watson of Christiansburg, Va.; two sisters, Sylvia H. Smith of Harrisonville and Vicky A. Sponsler of Greencastle, Pa.; one brother, Michael W. Sponsler of Harrisonville; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, Harrisonville. The Rev. Donald Bard will officiate.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Oliver Stevenson Jr.

MONT ALTO, Pa. - Oliver "Steve" Stevenson Jr., 60, of 17 Ash St., died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at his home.

Born Sept. 12, 1942, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Oliver Stevenson Sr. and Ellen Dowling Stevenson.

He retired in 1999 after 30 years with the U.S. Post Office.

He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waynesboro, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hood Stevenson, whom he married June 10, 1983; three daughters, Cindy Fraser, Kimberly McGowan and Jeanne Stevenson, all of Pittsburgh; two sons, Ronald Stevenson and Donald Stevenson, both of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Roseann Dysart of Granville, Ohio and Patsy D. Stevenson of Newark, Ohio; two brothers, Gene Stevenson and George Stevenson, both of Newark; and six grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Mass will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Waynesboro. The Rev. Joseph Carolin will be celebrant.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Helen K. Sweigart

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Helen K. Sweigart, 78, of 773 S. Second St., died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Nov. 16, 1924, in Bloomsburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William O. and Florence K. Long Mensch.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Sweigart, in 1955; and by her companion of 23 years, Harry Moats, in 1980.

She was a babysitter.

She attended Community Pentecostal Mission in Chambersburg.
