June 20, 2003

City of Hagerstown officials want to let the public know that the Home Pride Parking Grant Program expires in three months.

Property owners in the eligible area who meet grant conditions can get money to demolish run-down garages or create off-street parking spaces, according to a city news release.

The eligible areas include the downtown area, Jonathan Street area, Potomac/Broadway area, North Mulberry/North Locust Street area, South Prospect Street and the area around Washington County Hospital, the city said.

Individuals can receive $1,000 for garage demolitions, $700 to create one parking space, $900 to create two parking spaces, $1,300 to create three spaces plus $400 for each additional space, the city said.

The space must be on the site of a residential building, used for the building's tenants and off a street or in the rear yard off an alley, or, in some circumstances, off a street, Planning Director Kathleen Maher said.
