Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew K. Rogers, son of Ann M. and Francis J. Rogers of Sharpsburg, recently returned from a two-month deployment while assigned to the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Diligence, homeported in Wilmington, N.C.

Rogers is a 1993 graduate of Boonsboro High School and joined the Coast Guard in August 1994.




Navy Seaman Bruce D. Shanton Jr., son of Consuelo L. and Bruce D. Shanton of Charles Town, W.Va., recently assisted the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit during a two-week bilateral training exercise in Albania while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima, homeported in Norfolk, Va.

Shanton is a 2001 graduate of Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., and joined the Navy in September 2001.




Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Allen Ford III, recently assisted the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit during a two-week bilateral training exercise in Albania while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima, homeported in Norfolk, Va.

Ford is a 1999 graduate of Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.




Navy Seaman Apprentice Tonika Y. Thomas recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

Thomas is a 2001 graduate of Martinsburg (W.Va.) High School.




Navy Ensign Benjamin F. Hawbaker recently graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, and was commissioned to his current rank in the U.S. Navy.

Hawbaker is a 1999 graduate of Chambersburg (Pa.) Area Senior High School.




Navy Ensign Aaron V. Kakiel, son of Cheryl A. and Anthony M. Kakiel, of Fayetteville, Pa., recently graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis and was commissioned to his current rank in the U.S. Navy.

Kakiel is a 1999 graduate of Chambersburg (Pa.) Area Senior High School.




Navy Ensign Michael A. Bender, recently graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis and was commissioned to his current rank in the U.S. Navy.

Bender is a 1999 graduate of Chambersburg (Pa.) Area Senior High School.




JoAnn R. Hatton, daughter of Tracy L. Brown and Steven E. Harris, both of Hagerstown, and whose husband, Charles, is the son of Charles M. and Theresa Hatton of Campton, Ky., has enlisted in the Kansas Air National Guard.

Hatton is a medical technician assigned to the 184th Air Refueling Wing at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kan.

Hatton is a 2002 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.




Air Force Airman Timothy M. Weddle, son of John Weddle of Knoxville, Md., and grandson of Carol Mobley of Frederick, Md., has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Weddle is a 2002 graduate of Brunswick High School.




Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Paul L. Hoopengardner Jr., son of Tina L. and Paul L. Hoopengardner of Brunswick, Md., is preparing to reboard ships of the USS Nassau Amphibious Ready Group while assigned to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), based in Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Hoopengardner is a 2000 graduate of Brunswick High School and joined the Marine Corps in July 2000.




Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Stephen K. Ferguson, son of C.J. Ferguson of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Owen E. Chismar of Longmont, Colo., is preparing to reboard ships of the USS Nassau Amphibious Ready Group while assigned to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), based in Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Ferguson is a 1996 graduate of Mountaineer Challenge Academy in Kingwood, W.Va., and joined the Marine Corps in January 1999.




Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Chad J. Gorski, whose wife, Anna, is the daughter of Michelle and Christian Schmidt-Moore of Kearneysville, W.Va., recently returned from a 10-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, homeported in Everett, Wash.




Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Daniel John, son of Lorrie Smith of Frederick, Md., currently is deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom while assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp Lejeune, N.C.

John is a 1992 graduate of Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick, and joined the Marine Corps in November 1999.




Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Christopher M. Hoffman currently is deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom while assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Hoffman is a 2001 graduate of Southern Fulton High School in Warfordsburg, Pa.

Navy Seaman Recruit Tristan R. Smith, son of Dianne F. and Larry A. Smith of Hedgesville, W.Va., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.




Air Force Tech. Sgt. Mark A. Wiley, son of Dorothy A. Wiley and Robert F. Wiley, both of Hagerstown, has graduated from the Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) Academy at McGuire Air Force Base in Wrightstown, N.J.

Wiley is a quality and training supervisor assigned to the 436th Operations Support Squadron at Dover (Del.) Air Force Base. He has 13 years of military service.

Wiley is a 1989 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.




Marine Corps Cpl. Jasen D. Kerr, recently received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal while assigned to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 18 in Okinawa, Japan.

Kerr is a 1997 graduate of Brunswick (Md.) High School.




Navy Seaman Apprentice Devin L. Szymanski, son of Robin L. and Melvin F. Szymanski of Mount Airy, Md., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

Szymanski is a 2001 graduate of South Carroll High School in Woodbine, Md.




Marie Corps Pfc. Robert L. Leveille, son of Robert Leveille of Brunswick, Md., recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, S.C.
