Ringer appointed borough emergency services chief

June 19, 2003

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Wednesday night was one of those rare occasions when Waynesboro Mayor Louis M. Barlup had to break a tie vote.

The six-member council deadlocked on a motion by Charles "Chip" McCammon to appoint former Waynesboro Fire Chief Donald Ringer as the borough's Emergency Services Coordinator and Hans Bader, recently retired chief of the Waynesboro Ambulance Squad, as his deputy.

Voting for Ringer and Bader were McCammon and Councilmen John Cook and Ardie Winters. Council President Douglas Tengler and Councilmen Clint Barkdoll and Allen Porter voted against Ringer.

Barkdoll said after the meeting it was a difficult decision for him because both were qualified.

Barlup went with Ringer.

Former City Councilwoman Vicki Jo Huff, an active member of the Waynesboro Fire Department, said she was the only candidate other than Ringer who was interviewed for the job.

Ringer will replace Jody Sanders, who resigned from the nonpaying post earlier this year.
