Miner powers Post 211 over Post 202

FUNKSTOWN - David Miner went 3-for-4, including a solo home run, to lead Funkstown Post 211 to a 4-2 win over Williamsport Post 202 in the Western Maryland District on Wednesday.

Gerry Spessard went 2-for-3 for Funkstown (11-7, 5-4), while Adam Dick scattered seven hits to get the win.

Gerad Haupt had two hits and Andy Simmons homered for Williamsport.


Team Maryland falls

NORMAN, Okla. - Team Maryland put together a late rally but fell short in a 9-8 loss to Team Texas at the Sunbelt Classic tournament.

Will Delawter (Catoctin) got the start for Maryland, but gave up grand slams to Adam Hale in the first and Carson Kaner in the fifth as Texas took a 9-0 lead.

Nick Bowen (Chesapeake) hit a grand slam for Maryland. Garrett Hanselman (Thomas Johnson) had a single and two walks and scored twice for Maryland.


Maryland played Florida in a late game on Wednesday.


Hagerstown 6, Fayetteville 1

Mike Spry went 3-for-4 to lead the Braves over the AA's.

Trey Cobb had two hits and two RBI, Jon Showe had two hits and Zack Swisher drove in two runs for the Braves (16-1, 15-1).

Brunswick 4, Jefferson 1

JEFFERSON, Md. - Wayne Toms went 3-for-4, while Corey O'Bryan went had two hits, including a home run, for the Orioles. Kevin Goode and Scott Frye each had two hits and Brad Lowe hit a solo home run for the Orioles (11-3, 10-3).

Jordan Wilson and Andy Maught each had two hits for the Dodgers (2-7).


Clear Spring Minor League

Orioles 13, Cubs 11: Bradley Webb and Austin Butler each had three hits, while Adam Mellott had two hits for the Orioles. Cody Snodderly, Bradley Mills and Chris Rowland each had two hits for the Cubs.

Conococheague LL

Byers' Market 4, Lions 3: Casey McKenrick threw a complete game with seven strikeouts and added three hits while both Zachary Lucas and Joey Sutch had two hits for Byers'. Tyler Byers had three hits and Colby McCauley added two hits for Lions.

Lions 3, Byers' Market 0: Colby McCauley and C.J. Hambelton had two hits each, while McCauley struck out 12 for Lions.

Conococheague Minor

M&T 12, Reid's 5: Ricky Long had two hits for M&T. T.J. Boyer had three hits, while Jake Quigley, Tyler Nally and Sterling Christie all added two hits for Reid's.

Federal Little League

Kiwanis 7, American Legion 3: Will Murray had three hits, while Jeremy Wood and Ben Mellott each had two for Kiwanis. Alex Shearer had three hits and Allen Sandberg and Joe Blackwood each had two for American Legion.

Hagerstown PONY League

F&M 8, Eagles 4: Kyle Caine went 4-for-4 and homered, Todd Jacobson went 2-for-2, and Kenny Shanholtz had two hits for F&M. Brandon Norris hit a two-run home run, while Ryan Heavner and Brock Kettoman each had two hits for Eagles.

Halfway Little League

Gehr 7, Valley Storage 3: Kyle Stone had two hits, including a home run, for Gehr, while Daniel Pulieri also had two hits and pitchers Brandon McCauley and Kyle Stone combined for 12 strikeouts. Matt Deike had two hits, including a homer, and Bradley Kretzer also homered for Valley Storage.

Maugansville Little League

Maugans Oil 14, Homecare 13: Mike Braithwaite had two hits and Miles Trumpower both had two hits for Maugans Oil. Bryan Laferte had two hits for Homecare.

National 7-8

Antietam Fire Co. 18, Western Maryland Sportsmans Club 17: Logan Appel had four hits, including two home runs, and Zach Sines added three hits for Antietam. Cody Rachor had two hits for Western Maryland.

Builders' Assistants 9, Chase 5: Chet Price had three hits and Jeff Remsburg had two hits for Builders' Assistants. Peter Martin and Travis Marshall each had two hits for Chase.

South Mountain LL

Nationwide 17, Thompson's Gas 5: Kevin Thomas and Tyler Walsh each had three hits, while Zack Clopper had two hits, including a home run, for Nationwide.

Nationwide 10, Thompson's Gas 0: Kevin Thomas, Tyler Walsh and Adam Collins each had two hits for Nationwide.

Aladdin Awards 8, Ace 2: Winning pitcher Jamie Fowler pitched a complete-game with 17 strikeouts and went 3-for-5, while Lisa Wetzel had two hits for Aladdin. Leslie Brown and Courtney Hutchinson each had two hits for Ace.

West End Little League

AFL-CIO 3, VFW 2: Joe Breehl threw a three-hitter and struck out nine for AFL-CIO. Alan Bowers and Dustin Smith combined for a three-hitter for VFW.

Coca-Cola 15, Elks 14: Dwight Boward hit for the cycle and Preston Smith had four hits, including the game-winning double in the bottom of the seventh inning, for Coca-Cola. Brian Cornett had two hits, including a home run, for Elks.

West End Minor League

Woodpoint 13, FOP 2: David Moser, Austin Black, Matt Hassler, Austin Scott and Kordell Davis each had two hits for Woodpoint. Brandon McKenzie had two hits for FOP.


Hub City Softball

South End Tavern 11, Corbi's Thunder 3: Greg Mills had four hits and Dwayne Rowland had three, including two home runs, for South End Tavern.

South End Tavern 16, Corbi's Thunder 6: Rick Malloy and A.J. King each had four hits, while Troy Butts, Dwayne Rowland and Matt Moats each had three for South End.

Thompson's Gas 16, Coors Light 6: Eric Bender led Thompson's Gas with four hits, including two home runs. Denny Wallach had four hits, including a home run, while Mike Ernde and Terry Wray each had four hits for the winners.

Jerry's Sports 16, Lenox 5: Todd Ricker had three hits, including two home runs, while Rick Ricker, Sid Shupp, Denny Talbert all had three hits and Scott Shupp homered for Jerry's.
