C&O Canal advisory panel slated to meet

The C&O Canal National Historical Park Advisory Commission will meet Friday at 10 a.m. in the second floor conference room at park headquarters, 1850 Dual Highway, Hagerstown.

The commission members are citizens who are appointed by the Secretary of the Interior upon nominations submitted by the governing bodies of the counties of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington and Allegany and the states of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

The commission's purpose is to meet with and advise the designee of the Secretary of the Interior, usually the park superintendent, on policies and matters related to the administration of the C&O Canal National Historical Park.

The agenda for the meeting includes the Georgetown University boathouse proposal, the Georgetown walls and bridges projects, the interpretive canal boat operation, the draft Land Protection Plan, Western Maryland right-of-way management plan, and historic leasing and concessions feasibility study.
