Council won't have meeting next week

The Hagerstown City Council will not meet June 24 because council members will be at the Maryland Municipal League convention, Mayor William M. Breichner said during Tuesday's council meeting.

The council usually meets every Tuesday.

The council's next regularly scheduled meeting is July 1.

No comments made at water, sewer hearing

Nobody spoke at a Hagerstown City Council public hearing Tuesday on a proposed ordinance to impose water and sewer plan review and inspection fees.

If approved by the council at a July 1 meeting, the fees will go into effect Aug. 1.

The city wants to charge fees to developers to cover city costs related to plan reviews and inspections of new developments, city Finance Director Al Martin said.

Those expenses - estimated to be $150,000 to $200,000 annually - currently are paid by all city water and sewer customers. If the fees are approved, only those who cause the costs to be incurred will be charged, city officials have said.
