June 14, 2003

The Washington County Department of Buildings, Grounds and Parks on Friday announced a schedule of planned renovations to tennis courts at five area high schools beginning Tuesday and continuing through the summer.

The courts will be closed while repaving, restriping and other repairs take place.

Schools and closing dates for renovations are:

  • North Hagerstown High School courts - closed from Tuesday until Tuesday, July 15.

  • Smithsburg High School courts - closed from Thursday until Wednesday, July 23.

  • Williamsport High School courts - closed from Monday, June 23, until Thursday, July 31.

  • South Hagerstown High School courts - closed from Wednesday, June 25, until Wednesday, Aug. 6.

  • Boonsboro High School courts - closed from Monday, June 30, until Friday, Aug. 15.

BG&P director Jim Sterling said the tennis courts, which the county maintains through an agreement with the Washington County Board of Education, have been in need of rehabilitation for some time. The courts have not been overhauled since their construction in 1975.
