Area roundup - Suns make roster moves

June 13, 2003

The Hagerstown Suns welcomed three players - including two familiar faces - into the fold before Thursday's rainout at Lake County.

Julian Benavidez - a South Atlantic League All-Star for Hagerstown last season - rejoins the team after starting this season in advanced Class A San Jose. Benavidez, who batted .265 with 11 homers and 72 RBI while in Hagerstown, was batting .205 with three homers and 22 RBI at San Jose.

Kevin Kelly, who started this season as the Suns' regular third baseman, was hit by a pitch on the hand on April 29 and sustained a fractured knuckle. Prior to the injury, Kelly was batting .300 with two home runs and seven RBI.

Brad Hennessey, who was the first round draft pick of the San Francisco Giants in 2001, joins the team from extended spring training. He did not play in 2002 due to injuries.

Hagerstown sent infielders Travis Ishikawa and Aaron Hornostaj to extended spring training.
