Arrest warrants have been issued for two men believed to be responsible for an armed robbery on Hayes Avenue in Hagerstown early Monday, Hagerstown City Police said Wednesday.

Police obtained warrants charging Michael Dean Ash, 22, address unknown, and Robert John Bitler, 31, of 12934 Spruce Run Road, Myersville, Md., with a number of charges, including: Armed robbery, robbery, first-degree burglary, first-degree assault, and using a handgun while committing a felony or violent crime.

Lt. Richard Johnson said warrant squad officers have not been able to find the men over the past few days, but they are known in the neighborhood. Johnson said interviews led to the names, and the men were picked out in a photo array.

"We've decided to let the public help us out," he said.

Police have released photos and descriptions of the men.

Bitler is white with black hair and hazel eyes. He is 5 feet, 10 inches tall, and weighs 210 pounds.

Ash is described as black with brown eyes.

Police were called at 4:51 a.m. Monday to 604 Hayes Ave. for a reported armed robbery. There they found Robert Dewayne Lane, who told police he had been awakened by two men who robbed him of his wallet at gunpoint.

Lane told police the men left through the rear door after he was robbed by two men, one who had a gun and one who had a knife.
