MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -Police are investigating an armed robbery in which a man walked into the Rite Aid pharmacy on Winchester Avenue Sunday and demanded several brands of narcotics, a Martinsburg City Police officer said.

The robbery occurred at the Rite Aid at 609 Winchester Ave., which is in the Martinsburg Plaza.

The man walked to the pharmacy at the back of the store at about 12:28 p.m. and made a gesture to his clothing as if he may have had a gun, Sgt. Glenn Macher said.

The man obtained items from the pharmacy, left the store and last was seen leaving the area on foot and heading toward Winchester Avenue Elementary School, Macher said.

The man did not show a weapon and no one was injured, Macher said.

The man was described as white, in his early to mid-20s and having reddish-blond hair. He last was seen wearing dark-colored sweat pants that had been cut off into shorts, Macher said.

Anyone with information about the robbery may call police at 304-264-2100.

Tips also can be reported to Berkeley County Crime Solvers at 304-267-4999.

Robberies have been an ongoing problem in the area over the last year, and police attribute most of them to people trying to support drug habits.
