Area roundup - Schuler cruises through Frederick

FREDERICK, Md. - Tim Schuler, 40, of Chambersburg, Pa., cruised to victory at Frederick Memorial Hospital's fifth annual Race for Leukemia 5-Miler.

Schuler broke the tape in a masters course-record 26 minutes, 36 seconds - 1:39 ahead of runner-up Sean Smith, 33.

Susan Graham Gray, 35, of Greencastle, Pa., won the women's race in 29:29. Patty Fulton, 37, of Silver Spring, Md., was second in 29:43.

Mike Fitzgerald, 48, of Hagerstown, was the second men's master in 30:00. He and Graham Gray each compete for Hagerstown's Cumberland Valley Athletic Club.

Schuler and Graham Gray each won $100.


Halfway Little League

Gibney's 6, Gehr 3: Josh Green, Josh Cline and Zach Sauble each had two hits for Gibney's. Kyle Stone had two hits, including a homer, and Shane Muldoon had two hits for Gehr.

Valley Little League

SMRG 8, St. Lawrence 5: Jordan Thurber had three hits, including a home run, to lead SMRG. Thomas Port also had three hits, while Randy Freehling added two in the victory. Jason Kendall and Michael Rishell led St. Lawrence with two hits each.

South Mountain Little

Post 10 10, Pete's Barber Shop 0: Blake Roberts homered, while Kyle Grove, Luke Michael, Adam Chambers, Blake Roberts, Cody Linton and John Slick each had two hits for Post 10 on Friday. Chambers had 12 strikeouts in the win.
