Coretta L. Carter


Coretta Lee Carter, 89, formerly of 136 W. Bethel St. in Hagerstown, who died Friday, May 30, 2003, was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Robinson and Ethel Campbell; three sons, Melvin Carter, Kenneth Carter and Mansfield Carter; a sister, Isabelle Carter; and a brother, Kidrick T. Carter.

Bishop Derek H. Kee and the Rev. G. Nathan Bell officiated at the services held June 4.




Glenn J. Hawkins


MIDDLETOWN, Md. - A memorial service for Glenn John Hawkins, 82, of 1605 Michael Road, who died Saturday, May 10, 2003, will be held Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. at Old Post Chapel in Arlington National Cemetery. Inurnment will follow in the cemetery.

Arrangements are by Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro.




Frederick J. Brettschneider


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Frederick J. Brettschneider, 77, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Heartland of Martinsburg.

Born Sept. 5, 1925, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Frederick J. Brettschneider Sr. and Margaret Walther Brettschneider.

He is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Byers of Martinsburg.

Services and burial will be private at Western Cemetery in Baltimore.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.




Ida M. Benedum


SALEM, W.Va. - Ida Maye Benedum, 80, of Salem, died Friday, June 6, 2003, at her home.

Born Jan. 6, 1923, in Doddridge County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Carl W. and Bessie V. Kellar Ford.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold F. Nelson, killed in action during World War II, and by her second husband, George G. Benedum, in 1999.

She had been employed by the Glass Factory as a supervisor of the glazer.

She attended Freewill Baptist Church.

She was a member of a VFW auxiliary.

She is survived by a daughter, Carla C. Titus of Jane Lew, W.Va.; a son, Harold F. Nelson Jr. of Greencastle, Pa.; a sister, Betty Rock of Grove City, Ohio; a brother, Daris W. Ford of Waynesboro, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie Hoover and Helen Walters, and five brothers, Lawrence Ford, Jack Ford, Bill Ford, James W. Ford, and Darwin B. Ford.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Harbert Funeral Home, Salem. The Rev. Lillian Simmons will officiate. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Salem.

The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home.
