Sometimes people have to wait in line a little, says Gloria Pine.

And what are they waiting for?

It's strawberry treats made with homemade shortcake and freshly picked and sliced strawberries, ice cream, whipped cream.

Strawberry Festival 2003, the 13th annual event of the Buchanan Lioness Club, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Lions Park in Mercersburg, Pa.

There will be a drawing for handcrafted quilt, craft vendors, entertainment and activities for kids, including a free "moon bounce."

Area pooches can compete in a fun dog show for awards in 10 classes, including new categories - hot-dog bobbing, best kisser and best behind. This will be the 12th year for the dog show, and there usually are about 60 entries, says Rachel Nichols, who leads the canine feature of the festival.

The Lions Club will be barbecuing chicken and serving hot dogs and ground ox sandwiches.

About 300 to 400 people usually attend the festival in the park, Pine says. The event benefits Beacon Lodge and Leader Dogs for the Blind.
