Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services reports 69 calls in May

According to Capt. James Ulrich, the Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services had 69 calls for service during the month of May.

Of those calls, eight were to Frederick County, four to Franklin County, Pa., and nine were in town limits. Ten calls were to Boonsboro while the department provided coverage during their carnival.

The most common call types were trouble breathing and car accidents.

The department also responded to two water rescues in Leitersburg during the month.

A total of 34 patients were transported to Washington County Hospital, five were taken to Waynesboro, Pa., and one went to Frederick Memorial Hospital.
