Board of Elections chairman honored

The Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday awarded long-time Board of Elections Supervisor Chairman Richard Coss with a Certificate of Merit.

Coss has served on the Board of Elections for 14 years and as chair for 10 years.

His retirement from the board was effective June 1.

Commissioners President Gregory I. Snook presented Coss with the certificate.

Library staff hands out Lehrer's book

Washington County Free Library staff members on Tuesday gave the Washington County Commissioners a copy of PBS's Jim Lehrer's book, "No Certain Rest."

The book is being distributed as part of a library program called "One County-One Book," which encourages members of the community to read the same book and then discuss it.


Several reappointed to county boards

The Washington County Commissioners reappointed several people to Washington County boards Tuesday.

Sara Ann Godwin and Cindy Pellegrino were reappointed to three-year terms on the Public Guardianship Review Board.

George Anikis, Edwin Itnyre and John Powell were reappointed to three-year terms on the Antietam Battlefield Advisory Committee.

Employees raise money to fight cancer

Washington County employees recently raised $325 for the American Cancer Society, County Administrator Rodney Shoop said Tuesday.

The money was raised during a recent Employee Casual Day event.
