County GOP gets state recognition

The Washington County Republican Central Committee was recognized by state party officials for winning 17 out of 19 contested races in the November election.

Party officials accepted the award at the state GOP's convention at Rocky Gap in Allegany County, Md., Chairman Mark Boyer said.

The "Samuel Chase Award" is named for a Maryland lawyer who signed the Declaration of Independence.

Washington County Republicans lost the race for sheriff to Charles Mades and the District 2B delegate race to Del. John P. Donoghue.

The local party is recruiting candidates for both those races, Boyer said.
