Funkstown posts sweep of Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT - Matt Allen had three hits and Matt Hess had two in the second game of Post 211's doubleheader sweep of Post 202.

In the first game, Funkstown managed just three hits but found a way to win in a Western Maryland District game.

Winning pitcher David Miner hit a two-run homer for Funkstown in the first game. Gerad Haupt had three hits and Marty Kaetzel had two for Williamsport.


Andy Simmons and Andy Taylor each had two hits for Williamsport (4-2, 1-1) in the first game.


Brunswick 4-1

Fayetteville 3-0

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Willie McLane and Joey Hart combined on a six-hitter and nine strikeouts to beat Fayetteville in the opening game of a doubleheader.

Brad Lowe and Scott Frye had two hits each for Brunswick. Cole Braniff had two hits for Fayetteville.

Frye fired a complete-game three-hitter with nine strikeouts to blank Fayetteville (1-5) in the nightcap. Steve Goode singled in the sixth inning to drive in Corie O'Bryan with the game's only run for Brunswick (3-1).


American Little League

Elks 5, FOP 3: Jordan Hatfield and Tyler Ernde each had two hits for Elks.

Funkstown 10, Thompson Concrete 0: Billy Springirth and Nick Martin combined on a one-hitter and Robert Warnick homered for Funkstown. George Casper had three hits, while Martin, Warnick and Eric Campbell added two each for the winners.

Hagerstown Colt League

Eagles 12, UAW 7: Bingie Bingaman and Andy May each had two hits and George Comegys had a three-run double for Eagles. Justin Baylor had two hits for UAW.

Eagles 10, B.J.'s 3: Bingie Bingaman and Greg Small each had three hits and Matt Sweigert had two for Eagles. Small threw a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts.

Eagles 8, Ruritan 3: Matt Sweigert had two hits and Steve Picone struck out 10 for Eagles.

Elks 7, FOP 6: Josh Ruppenthal and Matt Dixon had two hits each for FOP in the loss.

Elks 6, Cascade 3: Winning pitcher Dan Zamora pace the Elks with a one-hitter and 12 strikeouts.

Hagerstown PONY League

UAW 8, Redmen 3: Justin Bussard had three hits and two RBI, Kyle Cunningham had three hits and Chad Bikle homered for UAW. Nick Bodnar had three hits and Mark Dattilio had two for Redmen.

Jeter Paving 15, F&M 5: Ben Johnson had two hits, including a homer, and Zeke Rickets and Billy Bucklew each had two hits for Jeter Paving. Johnson and Rickets each drove in three runs. Josh Miller had a two-run double for F&M.

Elks 15, Firefighters 2: David Bowen went 4-for-4 with four RBI, Scott Myers had two hits, including a homer, and Jeremy Smith had two hits for Elks. Austin Barkdoll and Tim Leather combined to throw a three-hitter for the winners.

Goodwill 5, Elks 4: Marcellus Sumlin pitched a complete game with 15 strikeouts and had three hits to lead Elks. Scott Myers hit a solo homer in the win. Chuck Dobson had nine strikeouts for Elks.

FOP 15, Redmen 5: Chris Selby had two hits, including a home run, and pitched a three-hitter to lead FOP in a five-inning win. Greg Minnick and Matt Amalfitino had three hits and three RBI while Ben Walzl added two hits in the win. Cadyn Robinson homered for Redmen.

Halfway Little League

Gehr 14, Lions 3: Chris McSherry had three hits, while Brandon McCauley, Dylan Zimmerman, Dylan Turner, Jacob Ramsey and Shane Maldoon each had two for Gehr. Bobby Asper had two hits for Lions.

Gibney's 6, Valley Storage Bins 5: Josh Cline and Jason Hammond each had three hits to lead Gibney's to the first half title. Danny Spickler had three hits for Valley.

Junior Interleague

Post 202 11, Jerry's Sports and Design 6: Steven Mills fired a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts and Jackson Rowland had two hits for Post 202.

Maugansville Junior League

Penn Ave. Meats 14, Pepsi 12: Derek Kenner, Chris Benner, Jake Geesman and Chris Reid each had two hits for Penn Ave. Meats. Craig Martin and Mike Twigg each had two hits for Pepsi.

Carbaugh's Tree Service 9, Executone 8: Kyle Beers had a double and triple while David Kelsey and Jack Mesner had two hits to lead Executone while Kevin Redden pitched a five hitter in the loss.

Carbaugh's 10, Executone 8: Joe Bowers, Tyler Hornbecker three hits and Greg Lyman had three hits each while Nick Breeden and Colin McWilliams had two hits for Carbaugh's. Jack Mesner had two hits for Executone.

South Mountain Little League

Pete's Barber Shop 10, Reese's 7: Jeremy Hardy, Josh Danner and Sean Colgan had two hits each for Pete's.

Valley Little League

Valley Storage Bins 7, Redmen 6: Cruz Maldonado homered and Danny Spickler had three hits to lead Valley Storage Bin. Mike Warrenfeltz added two hits in the win. John Moser had two hit, including a homer, for Redmen.

SMRG 5, Dorsey's 3: Jordan Thurber homered and pitched a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts while Randy Freehling and Tyler Barnhart drove in two runs each to lead SMRG.
