Eastern Elementary DARE students were great

To the editor:

On May 15, 2003, I attended the D.A.R.E. graduation ceremony for the Eastern Elementary School because two Washington County Sheriff's Office deputies served as instructors for this program. I must commend the fifth grade students and faculty at Eastern Elementary School for the fantastic job in the preparing and performance of the graduation ceremony. Recent articles in the newspaper leaves the appearance that Eastern Elementary School is less than adequate. However, based on my experience at the graduation ceremony, I just say that I was truly impressed.

The graduation ceremony was innovative and well prepared. The students portrayed their learning experience very well and demonstrated their resolve to resist the use of drugs, alcohol and tobacco in the future. They even had a soloist, who did a superb job singing "One Moment in Time."

I was very impressed with the quality of the students and faculty at Eastern Elementary School and I would like to tell them to hold their heads high and be proud of their school.

Chief Deputy
