Carl W. Hillyard

Carl Wilson Hillyard, 83, of 1043 Security Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 8, 1919, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. and Esther E. Rice Hillyard.

He retired in 1975 from the Department of Corrections after 24 1/2 years of service.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He received the Purple Heart.

He was a member of Haven Lutheran Church.

He was a member of Maryland Classified Employees Association and Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys M. Hillyard; a daughter, Connie L. Bond of Clear Spring; a sister, Madeline Fenkanyn of San Diego; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Torben G. Aarsand will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, with military graveside services by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to SPCA, 13011 Maugansville Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740, or American Lung Association of Maryland, 11 Columbia St., Cumberland, MD 21502.

Thomas L. Mitchell

A memorial service for Thomas L. Mitchell, 75, of 1619 Woodlands Run, Hagerstown, who died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown.

Milton C. Cook

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Milton C. Cook, 60, of Charles Town, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.

Born Oct. 26, 1942, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Gordon and Dorothy Lloyd Cook.

He was a 1960 graduate of Charles Town High School.

He retired from East ALCO Aluminum Co. in Frederick, Md.

He was a Baptist.

He was a member of Jefferson County Izaak Walton League.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Helen E. Gallimore Cook; three daughters, Karen Scott, Cheryl Wharton and Elizabeth Cook, all of Charles Town; and four grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town. The Rev. George Hopkins will officiate.

There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Jefferson County IWLA Rifle Range, c/o Gene Thompson, 2862 Charles Town Road, Kearneysville, WV 25430.

Charles E. Fitzwater

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Charles E. Fitzwater, 80, of Martinsburg, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at Carehaven of Berkeley.

Born Oct. 1, 1922, in Bramwell, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lewis and Della Tackett Fitzwater.

He retired from General Motors in Flint, Mich.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Witt Fitzwater; a sister, Shirley Bernstein of Collidge, Ga.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

A graveside service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bluewell, W.Va.

The family will receive friends today from 4 to 6 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Naomi R. Lidie

FREDERICK, Md. - Naomi Ruth Brightwell Lidie, 74, of 4407 Reels Mill Road, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at Beverly Health Care Center, Frederick.

Born Nov. 22, 1928, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Dennis LeRoy and Ida May Smith Brightwell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Lidie Jr., in 1967.

In earlier years, she worked for Homewood Retirement Center in Frederick.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary M. Main and Lisa A. Booth, both of Frederick; four sons, Larry W. Lidie, Gary L. Lidie Sr. and Kelvin L. Lidie, all of Frederick, and Jerry D. Lidie of Hagerstown; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two nieces; and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by four siblings, Mildred Laciak, Betty Gue, Bea Sigafoose and Grayson Brightwell.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick. The Rev. Stacey L. Brady will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Nancy L. Longnecker

CHEWSVILLE - Nancy Louise Biser Longnecker, 61, of Twin Springs Drive, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at her home.

Born Dec. 27, 1941, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Pete and Fannie Turner Biser.

She worked for 12 years at Sheraton Four Points in Hagerstown.

She is survived by her husband, Phillip A. Longnecker; a daughter, Karen M. Miller of Williamsport; three sons, Randy L. Longnecker of Williamsport, Michael W. Longnecker of Waynesboro, Pa., and Larry L. Longnecker of Hagerstown; three sisters, Debbie Biser, Barbara Biser and Mary Huntsberry; two brothers, Austin Biser and Johnny Biser; and five grandchildren.
