Tractor-trailorcrash closes I-70

A tractor-trailer that turned over on Interstate 70 near Hagerstown just past noon Friday shut down the road and forced traffic to be rerouted through local roads for most of the afternoon, Maryland State Police said.

At 12:06 p.m., Michael Eugene Graley, 49, of Wise, W.Va., was turning off northbound Interstate 81 onto eastbound Interstate 70 in a 2000 Freightliner truck, police said. Carrying 29,000 pounds of auto parts, Graley's truck turned on its side and blocked both eastbound lanes of I-70.

Graley was cited for failing to control speed to avoid a collision. He was not injured in the accident, police said.

The truck had to be unloaded by hand, police said. The highway was reopened at 6 p.m.
