Fire causes damage to Frederick home

FREDERICK, Md. - A house fire in the 6100 block of Fieldcrest Drive caused $30,000 in damage, but no one was injured, according to a release Wednesday from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's office.

Firefighters were notified about the blaze at Vicki and David Beuchele's two-story house around noon Wednesday. According to the release, the fire began in the basement and was caused by a toy battery pack that overheated.

Md. man pleads guilty to drug charge

MARTINSBURG, W. Va. - A 22-year-old Temple Hills, Md., man pleaded guilty in United States District Court on Wednesday on one count of interstate transportation of firearms purchased outside his state of residence on July 6, 2002, United States Attorney Thomas E. Johnston said in a news release.

Brandon Nelson is free on bond pending sentencing, Johnston said.

Nelson faces a maximum exposure of five years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000, Johnston said..

Man enters guilty plea on drug charge

MARTINSBURG, W. Va. - A 27-year-old Martinsburg man pleaded guilty in United States District Court on Wednesday to one count of possession with intent to distribute 9.62 grams of cocaine powder in Martinsburg on Nov. 24, 2002, United States Attorney Thomas E. Johnston said in a news release.

Troy Urias is free on bond pending sentencing, Johnston said.

Urias faces a maximum exposure of 20 years imprisonment and a fine of $1 million.

Van fire reported on Interstate 270

URBANA, Md. - A van fire was reported at 6:44 a.m. Thursday on southbound Interstate 270, according to emergency information.

Traffic was reduced to one lane while firefighters and police cleared the accident, which was just north of Md. 80. The accident was cleared by 8:30 a.m.

No one was taken to the hospital, according to the report.
