City officials asked to read Lehrer novel

Kathleen O'Connell, assistant director of Washington County Free Library, presented the Hagerstown City Council and mayor Tuesday with copies of the novel "No Certain Rest" by Jim Lehrer, host of a news program on PBS.

She asked city officials to join others in the county in reading the murder mystery set at the Battle of Antietam, as part of Washington County Reading Day, June 7.

Skateboard park resolution approved

The Hagerstown City Council on Tuesday approved a resolution authorizing an agreement between the City of Hagerstown and the Skateboard Association of Southern Pennsylvania to use a portion of Fairgrounds Park as a skateboard park.

The agreement is for Jan. 1, 2003, to Dec. 31, with a renewable clause for an additional two-year term.

The association has asked the city to pay $2,000 to offset costs from the construction or purchase of moveable skateboard ramps and rails.
