Lillie M. Hanna


SMITHSBURG - Lillie M. Richards Hanna, 84, of Smithsburg, and formerly of West Newton, Pa., died Monday, May 19, 2003, in Smithsburg.

Born June 3, 1918, in New Geneva, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Martha Ryflinger Richards.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hanna, in 2000.

She was a member of First Church of God in West Newton and Class Ten and was active in W.C.S.E.

She is survived by one sister, Doris Listisen of Turkeytown, Pa.; one brother, William Richards of West Newton; 27 nieces and nephews including, Sue Ellen Kimmel of Smithsburg, with whom she resided; great-nieces; great-nephews; great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene R. Daufen and Lucetta R. Oblack; and three brothers, Raymond Richards, Arthur Richards and Glenn Richards.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at J. William McCauley Jr. Funeral Home, West Newton. The Rev. Glenn Beatty will officiate. Burial will be in West Newton Cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to First Church of God, 157 N. Second St., West Newton, PA 15089.




Calvin E. Baker
The family of Calvin Elmer Baker, 68, of 426 Mechanic St., Hagerstown, and Julia Manor Health Care Center, who died Sunday, May 18, 2003, will receive friends today from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown.

Services will be today at 1:30 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Mennonite Church Cemetery, Maugansville.




Toni G. Hendershot


NEEDMORE, Pa. - Toni Geneva Hendershot, 53, of Garland Road, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at Manorcare Health Services in Chambersburg, Pa.

Born June 22, 1949, in Needmore, she was the daughter of Albert D. and Edna F. Keefer Tritle of Needmore.

She was a 1967 graduate of Southern Fulton High School in Warfordsburg, Pa.

She was employed by the Teen Center in McConnellsburg, Pa.

She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren in Needmore.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Roger E. Reed Sr. of Warfordsburg; two sons, Derick S. Hendershot of Hancock and Roger E. Reed Jr. of Needmore; one sister, Linda A. Hess of Needmore; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil H. Tritle.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren, Needmore. The Rev. Roger Truax will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock; and Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the church. The funeral home will open Thursday at 2 p.m.

Samuel E. Miley


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Samuel Ellsworth Miley, 62, of 231 Irva Drive East and formerly of Spring Run, Pa., died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at his temporary home, 223 N. Hackberry Drive, Chambersburg.

Born Sept. 20, 1940, in Spring Run, he was the son of the late Frank Lawrence and Helen McLaughlin Miley.

He was employed for more than 10 years by Carlisle Tire and Rubber Co.

He was a Protestant.

He was a member of Sons of the American Legion Oscar M. Hykes Post 223 of Shippensburg, Pa.

He is survived by one daughter, Melanie Richardson of Shippensburg; one son, David S. Miley of Chambersburg; three sisters, Doris Garland of Mercersburg, Pa., Elnora Miley of Chambersburg and Sharon Middaugh of Maine; one brother, Robert Miley of St. Thomas, Pa.; one stepsister, Helen Middaugh of Shade Gap, Pa.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Services will be private.

There will be no public viewing.

Arrangements are by John L. Agett Funeral Home, Dry Run, Pa.




Bertha E. Johnson


GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Bertha E. "Sis" Atherton Johnson, 93, of 12577 Worleytown Road, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at the home of her nephew and niece.

Born March 20, 1910, in Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Mary Cole Atherton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin D. Johnson, in 1989.

She attended Greencastle High School.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Greencastle.

She is survived by one daughter, June E. Miller of Coseytown, Md.; one son, Richard L. Johnson of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, including Dick and Pat Goetz, with whom she resided.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests the omission of flowers.
