Roundup - Goretti makes private schools 'B' final

CUMBERLAND, Md. - Sean Engle (2-4) scattered three hits and struck out five as St. Maria Goretti defeated Bishop Walsh 9-1 Monday in a Maryland Private Schools Class 'B' semifinal.

Engle had two, while Mason Herman had two hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs for the Gaels. Chris Dorsey added two hits.

Jefferson 11, Martinsburg 1

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Justin Dailey went 4-for-4 with two doubles and Jefferson defeated Martinsburg in Region 1 Section 4 playoff action.

Brandon Smith added two hits for Jefferson.

Chambersburg 7, Dover 1

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Jared Olsen's two-run homer in the fourth inning was the loudest blow in Chambersburg's victory over Dover in the Pa. District 3 Class AAA first round.


Brandon Mummert had two hits and two RBI, Cody Stinger had two hits and an RBI and Tyler Brown had two hits for the Trojans. Irv Sleighter improved to 7-2, pitching five innings of one-hit ball while striking out nine.

Chambersburg will play Thursday in the quarterfinals.

Heritage 6, Grace 5

Jesse Latta had three hits and Heritage Academy rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh innings to defeat Grace Academy in the first round of the Mason Dixon Christian Conference playoffs.

Andrew Shank had two doubles and Brian Sandell added two hits for Heritage, which will play Broadfording for the championship today at 4:30 p.m. at the Hagerstown Colt League field.

Danny Carver had two hits for Grace.

Broadfording 7, Shalom 6

MARION, Pa. - Tyler Duffy had three hits and drove in two runs as Broadfording defeated Shalom in the MDCC playoffs.


Tussey Mountain 2, Southern Fulton 1

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Kaylie Mellott, Ashley Mallow and Cajan Woodal each had two hits for Southern Fulton (7-10, 5-6 Sideling Hill) in a loss to Tussey Mountain.


Hagerstown 6, Waynesboro 3

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Jimmy Jackson struck out 12 and Kevin Crawford was the key offensive ingredient as the Hagerstown Braves (2-0) downed Waynesboro.

Crawford had three singles and three RBI and also delivered a sacrifice fly to score Zack Swisher in the fourth inning to give the Braves a 2-1 lead.

Pat Sweeney had a pair of hits, including a two-run double in the sixth. At one point from the first through the sixth innings, Jackson, who allowed only two hits, retired 14 batters in a row.


Hagerstown PONY League

Goodwill 11, Hagerstown Floors 8: Brandon Rohrer, Adam Merbaugh and Cory Baker had two hits for Hagerstown Floors. Ryan Wilson and Zach Shoemaker had two hits and Aaron Mills struck out seven for Goodwill.

Hagerstown Floors 8, Redmen 1: Adam Merrbaugh, Corey Baker and Aaron Dixon combined to throw a three-hitter with 15 strikeouts for Hagerstown Floors. Adam Jenkins had two RBI.

West End Little League

AFL-CIO 13, Elks 9: Joe Breehl had two hits and four RBI to lead AF-CIO. Brian Cornette had three hits, including a home run, and four RBI for Elks, while Jake Turner and Coty Miller each had two hits.

West End Minor League

Heiser's Concrete 15, FOP 3: Paul Bigler, Drew Nemcek and Colby Johnson each had four hits, while Aaron Rowland, Brooke Rudisill, Matt Stambaugh, Shannon Shifflett and Dylan Stouffer all had three hits for Heiser's. Trevor Shuck had three hits for FOP.

Clear Spring Little League

A's 17, Orioles 6: Bruce Mills was 5-for-5, Sam Mills was 4-for-4 and Cody Butts had two hits for A's.

Maugansville Junior League

Pepsi 16, Executone 7: Guido Roche and Chucky Dobson combined on a no-hitter fo Pepsi. Dobson struck out 15 while collecting two hits of his own. Guido Roche had two hits, including a home run, and Jared Fis had three hits for Pepsi.

Sharpsburg Little League

Builders Assistants 11, Lions Club 1: Seth Poffenberger struck out seven and had two hits, while Chet Price had two hits for Builders.

Smithsburg Cal Ripken

Lewis Orchard 7, Bair Pools 5: Chris Pitsnogle had two hits and Cody Snavely struck out 10 for Lewis Orchards. Jessie Deleon had three hits and Brian Hoper homered for Bair Pools.

South Mountain Minor League

Reese's Home Improvement 18, Terry's Auto Center 6: Gunnar Whipp had four hits, Kyle Friend had three hits and Kyle Briggs had two hits for Reese's. Tanner Renner had two hits for Terry's, while Brett Deatrich struck out six in a complete game.

American Little League

Funkstown 8, Elks 0: George Casper, Nick Martin and Billy Springer each had two hits, while Springer had 10 strikeouts for Funkstown. Billy May had two hits for Elks.

Federal Little League

Lions 5, Rotary 1: Cody Nelling had two hits and Justin Mills and Tyler Pesgraves combined for 10 strikeouts for Rotary. Jeremy Barron had two hits for Lions.

Conococheague Minor League

Moose 13, Reid's 2: Hunter Eyler struck out seven for Moose. Eyler, Brandon Greene and Brandon Iseminger had three hits each, while Scott Drury had two hits.

Conococheague Little League

Redmen 22, Byers Market 0: Austin Taylor threw a four-inning, one-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts. for Redmen.
