WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Pat Blake and Danny Leatherman combined on a no-hitter and Walkersville ran away with the Class 2A West region title Monday with a 10-0 victory over Atholton Monday night.

The Lions (13-5) will play in today's 2A semifinals at 7 p.m. at Arundel High School against J.M. Bennett.

Blake (3-0), who joined the team in midseason, threw 5 2/3 innings, allowing two walks while striking out seven.

"He would have been our number one or two," Lions coach Mike O'Brien said. "His last three starts, he's done great. ... He's really looked strong."

Leatherman pitched to the final batter in the six-inning game, inducing a game-ending groundout.

Every Walkersville starter had a hit. Josh Jacobson and Nick Dutrow had three hits each, Tyler Redick had two hits and three RBI, while Luke Bedard, Dustin Kolb and Josh Harrison each had two hits and two RBI.

The Lions have won eight straight since they were 5-5 on April 23.

"The kids are really playing good baseball and they're believing in each other," O'Brien said. "We've finally jelled as a team and we're playing team baseball. It's a great time to be playing good baseball. I hope we can carry it through the rest of the way."
