Two Washington County doubles teams qualified for the state tournament later this week by advancing to Monday's West Region finals.

All quarterfinal and semifinal matches were completed Saturday at North Hagerstown. The finals will be held at three different high schools on Monday.

The boys doubles final will be at North Hagerstown at 4:30 p.m., and will pit the Hubs' Jonathan Martin and Brian Huguenin against Westminster's Mike Sirian and Rob Flora.

Martin and Huguenin beat Chad Arnold and Andrew Rowden of Liberty 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and Robert Zeender and Jamie Reickel of Walkersville 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals.

"In the second match, we started out a little bit slow," Martin said. "It was the first set that we lost all year. We got together and we talked about it. We knew that we had the talent to win. We just had to put it together."

"This is my first appearance in the regionals," Huguenin said. "It took a while to get warmed up for the semifinal, because I was still a little bit tired from the quarterfinal. We played well in the second and third sets."

The mixed doubles final will be held at Williamsport at 4:30 p.m. between the Wildcats' Mike Stambaugh and Jamie Pritchett and Walkersville's Ismail Robbana and Ashley Baker.

Stambaugh and Pritchett beat Matt Reber and Colleen Finecey of South Carroll 6-0, 6-2 in the quarterfinals and Kevin Schwab and Ashley Seanez of Urbana 6-3, 6-1 in the semifinals.

"I'm looking forward to the region final," Stambaugh said. "I won it last year when Katie Spoonire was my partner. We played good together today against a good team."

"I love reaching the region final," Pritchett said. "We started out a little bit slow, but then we came back to pull it off. I was cold and nervous at first, but once I really got into things, I was having fun out there."

The other three region finals will be at Frederick Monday at 4 p.m.

Chris Meyer of Urbana will face Rex Kehoe of Middletown in the boys singles final.

Tanya Gulnik of Thomas Johnson will face Amber McGolerick of Urbana in the girls singles final.

Catherine Ho and Zaza Bur of Frederick will take on Jen Morgeson and Lauren Blair of South Carroll in the girls doubles final.
