Suns win fourth straight on road

COLUMBUS, Ga. - Karl Jernigan homered and Travis Ishikawa added two RBI Friday to lead the Hagerstown Suns to their fourth straight victory, a 3-2 win over the South Georgia Waves.

The victory moved Hagerstown back to the .500 mark at 21-21. The Suns are 4-1 on the road trip.

Suns pitching had a string of 18 scoreless innings until the Waves scored two runs in the eighth.

Brian Stirm (2-0) got the win with six shutout innings. He allowed one hit and one walk while striking out four.

The Suns got on the scoreboard in the fourth when Jernigan hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot to left off South Georgia starter Jonathan Broxton (3-1).

Hagerstown added a run in the sixth. Darin McMains walked, took second on a one-out single by Carlos Sosa and went to third on a wild pitch. Ishikawa picked up the RBI with a single to center.


The Suns picked up an insurance run in the eighth. McMains reached on an error and stole second and third. Ishikawa followed with an RBI single to right.

Matt Palmer came on for Jason Waddell in the eighth and got Mike Nixon to ground out with the bases loaded.

Palmer retired the Waves in order in the ninth to earn his seventh save.

Suns pitching held South Georgia to three hits.
