May 11, 2003

Hagerstown officials recently announced that a new citizen information program will be televised on Antietam Cable Channel 6, Hagerstown's local access channel.

The first installment of the program, called "Citizen's Forum," will air Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m. The topic will be the city's fiscal 2003-04 budget.

Before the telecast and during the show, citizens will be able to call 301-739-8577, extension 118, to ask questions about the topic highlighted.

Citizens can call in their questions now.

Hagerstown Public Information Manager Karen Giffin will moderate the show, and the panel for the first telecast will be City Administrator Bruce Zimmerman, City Finance Director Alfred Martin and Assistant City Finance Director Ray Foltz.

Other city staff members will be present to field questions related to their operations.

The callers will not be heard on air. A city staff member will answer calls that come in during the program and write the questions down for the moderator.

Callers must give their full name and address when calling, and the caller's name will be stated on the show.

"We will do our best to answer all the questions; however, we cannot answer certain questions on-air, especially ones dealing with personnel issues and matters of litigation," Giffin said.
