Man injured in drive-by shooting in Hagerstown

An 18-year-old Bronx, N.Y., man was injured in a drive-by shooting early Saturday morning in the 800-block of Washington Avenue, Hagerstown City Police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was admitted to Washington County Hospital for treatment of a a gunshot wound to the back, police said.

His condition could not be determined, but police said his injuries were not life-threatening.

The man and his friends had been in a fight involving some women at Maverick's Night Club in Berkeley County, W.Va., when they left and came to Hagerstown, police said.

As the group was driving down Washington Avenue about 3:30 a.m., another vehicle pulled up beside them and an occupant fired numerous shots at the car with a handgun, police said.


The victim was a passenger in the car.

Police said they don't know the motive for the shooting.

A cash reward is being offered for information about the identity of the suspect and the suspect's vehicle, police said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to Hagerstown City Police at 301-790-3700. Detective Chris Kayser at ext. 238 and Detective Tammy Miller at ext. 245 are investigating the crime.
