Region lax play opens today

The state lacrosse regional playoffs kick off today with boys and girls first-round action.

  • For the boys, No. 10-seed South Hagerstown and No. 7-seed Brunswick open things in Class 2A-1A West against each other today at Brunswick, with the winner to play No. 2-seed Smithsburg in the quarterfinals.

    In other 2A-1A West quarterfinals, No. 5-seed Catoctin will travel to No. 4-seed Middletown and No. 6-seed Rockville hits the road to face No. 3-seed Walkersville.

    In the Class 4A-3A North quarterfinals, No. 6-seed Frederick will travel to No. 3-seed Fallston, while No. 7-seed Thomas Johnson travels to No. 2-seed Westminster,

  • For the girls, Smithsburg, Middletown and Brunswick will take the field today in 2A-1A West first-round games. The No. 8-seed Leopards host No. 9-seed Rockville with the winner to play No. 1-seed Century in the quarterfinals, while the No. 7-seed Railroaders welcome the No. 10-seed Knights with the winner to play No. 2-seed Catoctin in the quarterfinals.

    No. 5-seed South Hagerstown will travel to play No. 4-seed Walkersville in another 2A-1A West quarterfinal.


In 3A-2A West, No. 10-seed North Hagerstown hits the road to face No. 7-seed Wheaton today in a first-round game.

In 4A-3A North, rivals will meet Saturday in the quarterfinals when No. 4-seed Frederick hosts No. 5-seed Thomas Johnson.

All quarterfinals are scheduled for Saturday. Semifinals are set for Monday and finals will be held Wednesday.
