The American Red Cross asks prospective blood donors to take time today to visit one of two of the agency's bloodmobiles in Washington County to help ease the current shortages of all blood types.
- Hagerstown City Hall will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for donors.
- The Valley Mall is hosting a bloodmobile from noon to 6 p.m.
Teresa Elwood, director of blood services for the Washington County chapter of the Red Cross, said the chapter is 1,800 units under the yearly goal to date.
The current inventory consists of 38 percent of the needed O, B and AB negative blood and 34 percent of the A negative.
In order to donate blood, one should be in generally good health, at least 17 years of age, or 16 with parental consent, weigh no less than 110 pounds, have had no tattoos within the past year, and have not donated whole blood within the past 56 days.
