Kathleen D. Moats


WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Kathleen D. Moats, 69, of 9465 Mentzer Gap Road, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Feb. 1, 1934, near Tomstown, Pa., she was the daughter of Glen E. Moats of Waynesboro and the late D. Pauline Rock Moats.

She was a 1951 graduate of Quincy High School.

Prior to retiring, she was a nanny for Dr. VanDuren's family.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Fairview Ward, where she was a member of the Women's Relief Society, a top historian of the church, sang in the choir, arranged the music for the Relief Society, was assistant librarian and was active with genealogy.

She was a member of National AARP.

In addition to her father, she is survived by one daughter, Brooke J. Moats of Waynesboro; four brothers, Robert E. Moats of Mercersburg, Pa., Donald R. Moats and Glen O. Moats, both of Waynesboro, and Earl W. Moats of Fairfield, Pa.; nieces; nephews; and a special friend, Steven Stevenson of Hagerstown.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Fairview Ward, Waynesboro. Bishop Douglas M. Parks will officiate. Burial will be in Quincy Cemetery, Quincy, Pa.

The family will receive friends Friday at 1 p.m. at the church.

Ronald L. Myers


WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Ronald L. "Ronnie" Myers, 54, of 78 E. Second St., died of a heart attack Monday, May 5, 2003, at his home.

Born May 13, 1948, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Lee Myers of Hagerstown and the late Doris Everhart Wiles.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia L. "Ginger" Smith Myers, in 2002. They were married Jan. 24, 1975.

He was a 1967 graduate of Walter Johnson High School in Rockville, Md.

He was employed by the Waynesboro School District as head custodian at Waynesboro Area Senior High School.

He was a member of National Street Rod Association and West Side Cruisers in Hagerstown.

In addition to his father, he is survived by two sons, Douglas L. Myers and Jeffrey M. Myers, both of Hagerstown; three stepdaughters, Tami L. Barthlow of Lemasters, Pa., Heidi W. Luckenbaugh of Selinsgrove, Pa., and Leigh A. Martin of Waynesboro; one stepson, Donald L. Flagle of Newville, Pa.; one sister, Mary F. Myers of Greencastle; 13 grandchildren; and two nephews.

Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Pastor G. Joseph Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Antietam Cemetery (Price's Cemetery) near Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Malcolm D. Helman


Malcolm Deane Helman, 79, of Broadfording Church Road in Hagerstown, died Monday, May 5, 2003, at his home.

Born Feb. 11, 1924, in McConnellsburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Norman Lloyd and Lucinda Seville Helman.

He retired from the Bureau of Standards in Gaithersburg, Md.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of Painthorse Association and Quarterhorse Association, both in Texas.

He is survived by his former wife, Phoebe Helman; six sisters, Hope Seville, Elizabeth Johnson, Evelyn Snyder, Sally Sowers, Gail Chesnut and Mary Noyes; four brothers, James Helman, Carl Helman, Quay Helman and John Helman; two grandsons; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Cindy Johnson; one son, Sonny Helman; and two sisters, Betty Riley and Carol Mills.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Cito United Methodist Church, McConnellsburg. Pastor Donald R. Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg, with military services by VFW Post 655 and American Legion Post 561, both of McConnellsburg.

There will be no viewing.

Raymond A. Myers


GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Raymond A. "Maney" Myers, 84, of 157 N. Carlisle St., died Monday, May 5, 2003, at Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Feb. 15, 1919, in Greencastle, he was the son of the late Clinton and Ida Shrader Myers.

He was a 1937 graduate of Greencastle High School.

He retired after 25 years from Grove Worldwide in Shady Grove, Pa.

He was a member of Greencastle Church of the Brethren, where he was a member of the Berean Bible Class.

He was a member of Rescue Hose Co. No. 1 in Greencastle, Greencastle Sportsman Association, Grove Retiree Club and National AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Kathryn Zuck Myers, whom he married April 22, 1940; two daughters, Lillian Sharrah of Quincy, Pa., and Adera Laughlin of Greencastle; one son, Floyd R. Myers of Bel Air, Md.; three sisters, Beulah Diehl of Ringgold, Alma J. Reeder of Greencastle, and Betty Friese of Chambersburg, Pa.; two brothers, Irvin Myers of Greencastle, and Wilbur Myers of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
