U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. James W. Hess, nephew of Cleveland Greenfield of Martinsburg, W.Va., recently completed the Basic Electronics Course.

Hess is a 1997 graduate of Martinsburg High School and joined the Marine Corps in August 1997.




U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. David T. Tomlinson, son of Tommie T. Tomlinson of Mount Airy, Md., recently graduated from the Light Armored Vehicle Repairman Course

Tomlinson is a 1998 graduate of Glenelg High School, Glenelg, Md. He joined the Marine Corps in September 2002.




U.S. Navy Seaman Matthew D. Putman, son of Donna J. and Kenneth R. Putman of Brunswick, Md., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Putman is a 2002 graduate of Walkersville High School, Walkersville, Md.




U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Timothy W. Steele recently traveled through the Straits of Gibraltar and into the Mediterranean Sea while assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp LeJeune, N.C.

Steele is a 2001 graduate of Linganore High School, Mount Airy, Md.




U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. David P. Piper, son of Julie M. and David A. Piper of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., traveled through the Straits of Gibraltar and into the Mediterranean Sea while assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp LeJeune, N.C.

Piper is a 2001 graduate of Clarke County High School, Berryville, Va. He joined the Marine Corps in June 2001.




U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Daniel John, son of Lorrie Smith of Frederick, Md., traveled through the Straits of Gibraltar and into the Mediterranean Sea while assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp LeJeune, N.C.

John is a 1992 graduate of Gov. Thomas Johnson High School, Frederick, Md. He joined the Marine Corps in November 1999.




U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Christopher M. Hoffman traveled through the Straits of Gibraltar and into the Mediterranean Sea while assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp LeJeune, N.C.

Hoffman is a 2001 graduate of Southern Fulton High School, Warfordsburg, Pa.




U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. Matthew S. Fleming, son of Shelley L. Fleming of Martinsburg, W.Va., traveled through the Straits of Gibraltar and into the Mediterranean Sea while assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp LeJeune, N.C.

Fleming is a 2000 graduate of Martinsburg High School. He joined the Marine Corps in May 2000.




U.S. Army Reserve Pvt. John W. Kearchner Jr., son of Peggy A. Kearchner of Martinsburg, W.Va., has graduated from basic combat military training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.




Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew C. Strubhar, son of Susan D. and Paul L. Strubhar of Mercersburg, Pa., recently returned from the Caribbean Sea and a maritime homeland security patrol off the coast of South Carolina while assigned to the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Harriet Lane, homeported in Portsmouth, Va.

Strubhar is a 1998 graduate of James High School, Mercersburg. He joined the Coast Guard in April 2000.




U.S. Air Force Airman Kenji D. Higashihama, son of Suzanne and Jun Higashihama of Martinsburg, W.Va., has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Higashihama is a 1999 graduate of Grace Baptist Academy, Martinsburg.




U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Paul H. Pearson, son of Diane P. Pearson and Paul H. Pearson, both of Falling Waters, W.Va., is assigned to Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA).

Pearson, a 2000 graduate of Hedgesville High School, Hedgesville, W.Va., joined the Marine Corps in July 2000.




Pvt. Tomeka Benjamin of Hagerstown, recently enlisted into the Maryland Army National Guard's Company B, 729th Forward Support Battalion located in Hagerstown.

Benjamin recently began pre-basic training with the Soldier Readiness Battalion at Camp Fretterd Military Reservation in Reisterstown, Md.




U.S. Air Force Airman Autumn N. Petersen, daughter of Melissa Bonnette of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Dennis Petersen of Leesburg, Va., has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Petersen is a 2002 graduate of Jefferson High School, Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.




U.S. Navy Seaman Bruce D. Shanton Jr., son of Consuelo L. and Bruce D. Shanton of Charles Town, W.Va., traveled through the Straits of Gibraltar and into the Mediterranean Sea while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima, homeported in Norfolk, Va.

Shanton is a 2001 graduate of Jefferson High School, Shenandoah Junction, W.Va. He joined the Navy in September 2001.




U.S. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Allen Ford III, traveled through the Straits of Gibraltar and into the Mediterranean Sea while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima, homeported in Norfolk, Va.

Ford is a 1999 graduate of Jefferson High School, Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.




U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. Nathan F. Alleman, recently moved into Nasiriyah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom while assigned to Company "E", 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines, 4th Marine Division, based in Harrisburg, Pa.

Alleman is a 2002 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Chambersburg, Pa.
