Roundup - Lions upset Cougars in league play

WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Wes Anderson allowed only one hit and no earned runs over six innings, and Josh Jacobson and Ray Dorsey had the key singles in the Lions' three-run fourth inning for a 4-3 victory over No. 8 Catoctin, damaging the Cougars' bid for the MVAL title.

Anderson struck out four and walked two to outduel Chad Wolfe, who went the distance, allowing three hits and three walks while fanning seven.

Jacobson hit a two-run single and Dorsey followed with an RBI single as Walkersville (7-5, 7-5) took the lead for good.

Catoctin (10-5, 10-5) fell two games behind Williamsport in the loss column.

No. 1 Chambersburg 15, Carlisle 5

CARLISLE, Pa. - Drew McGwin had three hits and four RBI as Chambersburg beat Carlisle in the Mid-Penn Commonwealth.


Andy Carter had three hits and two RBI, while Irvin Sleighter had two hits and four RBI, including a three-run homer, for the Trojans (11-2, 10-1).

No. 4 Clear Spring 23 Southern Fulton 1

CLEAR SPRING - Mike Snyder hit two home runs and drove in four runs, while Zeb Jacobs went 3-for-4 with five RBI to lead Clear Spring in the rout.

Jacobs (3-0) struck out seven to get the victory for the Blazers (12-1). Phil Saloom had two hits and three RBI. Saloom, Jacobs and Adam Mills all homered for the Blazers.

No. 5 Jefferson 10, Clarke Co. 0

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va - Jawaan Holmes (5-2) struck eight in five innings as Jefferson blanked Clarke County.

Justin Dailey had an RBI triple and Steve Kozak an RBI double for the Cougars (19-7).

No. 6 Greencastle 5 James Buchanan 2

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Eric Ile got his first win of the season while striking out eight as Greencastle (12-4, 9-2) beat James Buchanan in a Mid-Penn Colonial game.

Boonsboro 15, Middletown 5

BOONSBORO Nate Himes went 5-for-5 with a grand slam, two doubles, two singles and seven RBI to lead Boonsboro to an MVAL win.

Keith Kellinger also homered and drove in four runs for Boonsboro (7-4).

Tyler Lushbaugh homered for Middletown.

North 10, Smithsburg 3

T.J. Hose pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts for North Hagerstown in an MVAL win over Smithsburg.

Matt Tedrick went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs, while Matt Ridenour had a three-run double in the Hubs' eight-run fifth inning. Orland Dean added two hits for North (8-7).

Smithsburg falls to 5-7.

Brunswick 10, FSK 3

UNION BRIDGE, Md. - Tommy Blumenauer went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead Brunswick past Francis Scott Key in the MVAL.

Blaine Keyser added two hits and drove in three runs, and Jesse Ault had three hits for Brunswick (6-8). Preston Tarleton, Justin Tucker and Zack Williams each had two hits for the Railroaders.

FSK falls to 1-10 with the loss.

Musselman 9, Goretti 1

Bobby Levy tossed a six-hitter to lead Musselman over St. Maria Goretti.

Chris Price, Brandon Combs and Jeremy Mason all homered for the Applemen (9-9).

Trevor Cobb had a pair of hits for Goretti (3-11).

Forbes Road 8, Hancock 4

HANCOCK - Jeff Willison had two hits and three RBI, including a two-run home run, and winning pitcher Tyler Younker added two hits for Hancock (6-6).

Mike Snyder and Chris Hall had three hits each for Forbes Road.

Frederick 4, Westminster 2

FREDERICK, Md. - Matt Kalmar's two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning gave Frederick a Central Maryland Conference win over Westminster.

Brian Lanning had three hits for the Cadets (4-8, 4-8).


Berkeley Springs 8 No. 3 Musselman 3

INWOOD, W.Va. - Julie Scherpf held Musselman to three hits as Berkeley Springs halted the Applemen's eight-game winning streak.

Scherpf (7-4) walked none and struck out six, and added two doubles for the Indians (12-9). Jessica Jenkins added two hits.

Musselman falls to 13-3-1.

Westminster 9, No. 7 Frederick 8

FREDERICK, Md. - Noelle Jones allowed just one earned run, but nine Frederick errors helped Westminster beat the Cadets in the CMC.

Kendall Blumenthal went 3-for-4 with four RBI to lead Frederick (7-5, 6-5). Amber Bakner and Kara Roberts each had three hits, while Julie Norris drove in three runs.

Smithsburg 8, North 6

Jamie Miller and Candace Stanford each had two hits to lead Smithsburg over North Hagerstown in the MVAL.

Amy Hope had two hits for the Hubs (2-14, 2-13).

Williamsport 9, South 0

WILLIAMSPORT - Heather Taylor went 3-for-3 with three RBI as the Wildcats defeated South Hagerstown in the MVAL.

Adrienne Munoz and Sarah Hardin added two hits apiece for Williamsport (7-8, 6-7).

Kelly Renner had two hits for the Rebels.

Middletown 6, Boonsboro 1

BOONSBORO - Ali Keeney had a two-run triple to help Middletown defeat Boonsboro in the MVAL.

Abby Burtner had three hits, while Emily Burtner, Jess Metzner and Jenna Strube all added two hits for the Knights.

Shannon Davis had two hits for the Warriors (2-11).

South. Fulton 21, Clear Spring 3

CLEAR SPRING - Kaylie Mellott had three hits and two RBI to lead Southern Fulton to a big win over Clear Spring.

Ashley Mallow and Candace Bard each drove in three runs, while Jenny Liggett had two hits for the Indians (5-5).
