WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Shawna Wilkes struck out 14, six looking, and hit a home run in the first inning to lead No. 2 Catoctin to a 5-0 victory over No. 4 Walkersville.

The Cougars (15-0, 15-0) scored four of their five runs in the first. Sara Wastler walked and Wilkes' homer made it 2-0. Sam Weaver reached base on an error, Kelly Stiles singled and both scored on another error.

"The first inning got to them," said Walkersville coach Jami Cambell. "The girls just gave up."

Wilkes improved to 10-0. She had a no-hitter through three innings, but got in trouble when a single, walk and an error loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth. Wilkes got herself out of trouble by striking out the last batter of the inning.

"I don't let anything get to me," Wilkes said. "If they get a hit, I just look on to the next pitch and keep my head up and keep doing what I have to do."

"In our minds it was just another game," Cougars coach Amy Hunt said of the meeting of two of the Monocacy Valley Athletic League's top three teams. "If we keep playing our game we hope to continue winning."

Wilkes went 3-for-4 and had three RBI, while Sara Wastler went 2-for-3 with a walk.

Alecia Weddle and Katherine Law had the two singles for Walkersville (9-3, 9-3). Jacki Klinger (9-3) pitched a complete game, struck out three, walked one and allowed nine hits.
