Ronald E. McCann


Ronald Eugene McCann, 48, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, April 26, 2003, at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore.

Born June 1, 1954, in Hagerstown, he was the son of George N. McCann of Hagerstown, and the late Viola V. Briscoe McCann.

He was employed by Perry Engineer Co., where he worked as a construction worker.

He was a member of Gateway Ministries in Williamsport.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Maria Santiago McCann; two daughters, Ronnette Davis of Hagerstown, and Serena McCann of Silver Spring, Md.; six sisters, Victoria Barnes and Lisa Young, both of San Bernadino, Calif., and Patricia McCann, Toni Dixon, Joyce Marion and Sandra Smith, all of Hagerstown; and one brother, James McCann of Hagerstown.

He was preceded in death by one sister, JoAnne Briscoe.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, North Potomac Street, Hagerstown. The Revs. Alan Greijack, Armando Figueroa and Victor Fowlkes will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Gateway Ministries, Md. 63 and Kemps Mill Road, Williamsport, MD 21795.




Richard D. Harbaugh


Richard D. Harbaugh, 74, of Hagerstown, died Friday, April 25, 2003, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, North Potomac Street, Hagerstown. The Revs. Shane Wilt and James Brinkley will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Gardens, Hagerstown, with graveside military honors by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Benevolent Fund, c/o Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, WV 25401.




June E. Hill


June Elizabeth Ware Hill, 77, of 285 N. Jonathan St. in Hagerstown, died Thursday, April 24, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 6, 1925, in Elkton, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Harvey and Mary V. Turner Ware.

Her husband, William H. Hill, died April 8, 1978.

She had been an employee of the Alexander Hotel in Hagerstown.

She was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Hagerstown.

She was a member of AARP.

She is survived by one son, Aaron S. Hill of Hagerstown; three aunts; and cousins.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church, Hagerstown. The Rev. Haru Carter Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the church.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Jean A. Campbell, 55 W. Bethel St., Hagerstown, MD 21740; or Zion Baptist Church, 61 W. Bethel St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Kenneth R. Hammond Sr.


Kenneth Richard Hammond Sr., 85, of Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, at his home.

Born April 4, 1918, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late George William and Elsie P. Knode Hammond.

His first wife, Betty Houser Hammond, died in 1976.

He was employed by C&P Telephone Co. of Maryland for more than 35 years, retiring in 1980.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was a Protestant.

He was a member of Telephone Pioneers; Communication Workers of America; Waynesboro Fish and Game Club; and past president of Mason-Dixon Kennel Club.

He is survived by his wife, L. Pearl Lukens Hammond; one daughter, Marilynne P. Kent; two sons, Kenneth R. Hammond Jr. and Stephen F. Hammond; one stepdaughter, Diana Kegarise; one stepson, Gerald Kessell; two sisters, Agnes M. Huff and Pearl Sprecher; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mina Starliper; and five brothers, Fred Hammond, Paul Hammond, Frank Hammond, Raymond Hammond and Alvey Hammond.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport. The Rev. James Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open after 1 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Harvest Baptist Church, 951 Woodland Way, Hagerstown, MD 21742.




Pearl I. Chaney


SILVER SPRING, Md. - Pearl Ines Chaney, of Silver Spring, died Saturday, April 26, 2003.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Leon Bowman and John Edward Chaney.

She is survived by three daughters, Irma L. Shiflett, Mary A. Hunt and Sandra J. Bolt; two brothers, John W. Shultz and Irvin T. Shultz; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Central Chapel, Hedgesville, W.Va. Burial will be in Central Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, Silver Spring; and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Central Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
