South Hagerstown's softball team had no answer for Catoctin's pitching combination of junior Sam Weaver and freshman Alecia Brandenburg, who combined to strike out 14 and continued the Cougars' undefeated season with an 11-2 victory Friday.
"We are a struggling young team," Rebels coach Sabrina McCoy said. "We pitch well, but our fielding and hitting doesn't back it up. We have two of the best pitchers in the league. Everything is not clicking when we need it to."
Weaver pitched three innings, struck out six, walked two and allowed one run on three hits. Brandenburg finished the game, striking out eight while giving up one run on four hits.
Kaityn Byrne went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, a walk and a stolen base and Weaver went 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Cougars (14-0, 14-0). Jen Cregger went 2-for-3.
