John S. Scott


John Schuhmann Scott, 46, of 50 Summit Ave. in Hagerstown, died Thursday, April 24, 2003, at his home.

Born Aug. 13, 1956, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Marie Schuhmann Scott of Hagerstown and the late Albert Lee Scott Jr.

He received his bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Maryland.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one son, John A. Scott of Hagerstown; three sisters, Cathy S. Paradiso of Parkton, Md., Mary Scott of Middletown, Md., and Peggy S. Mackrell of Ellicott City, Md.; one brother, Edward L. Scott of Frederick, Md.; and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, Hagerstown. The Rev. Michael Jendrek will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Brenda J. Black


Brenda Jean Black, 51, of 127 E. Lee St. in Hagerstown, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at her home.

Born Jan. 24, 1952, in Pittsburg, Calif., she was the daughter of Mr. Tomlin.

She was a 1970 graduate of Smithsburg High School and a graduate of Hagerstown Business College.

She was employed by McGraw-Hill Publishing Co. in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., in customer service for eight years.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her companion, Robert L. Heiberger; one daughter, Jessica F. West of Hagerstown; two sons, Robert Tomlin and Christopher Heiberger, both of Hagerstown; one brother, Charles R. Tomlin of Hagerstown; and one grandchild.

Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown.




Patricia A. Heishman


Patricia A. Lucas Heishman, 66, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 21, 1936, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Rosela Miller Lucas.

She was a desk clerk at Red Roof Inn in Williamsport for 25 years.

She was a Methodist.

She is survived by her husband, James M. Heishman; one son, Gary Heishman of Hagerstown; two sisters, Sonya Deeds of Hagerstown, and Cindy Yeakle of Hagerstown; one granddaughter; and one grandson.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown. Pastor Joseph Downs will officiate.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 2654 Valley Ave., Suite B, Winchester, VA 22601.




Shirley J. Young


BRUNSWICK, Md. - Shirley Jean Young, 68, of 508 East "D" St., died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 7, 1935, in Winston-Salem, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Wallace Buren Lewis Sr. and Hilda Marion Lewis.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Brunswick.

She is survived by her husband, Wendell S. Young Jr.; five daughters, Hilda Young and Kimberly Switlick, both of Brunswick, Alice Freeman of Charles Town, W.Va., and Stacy Marken and Tracy Myers, both of Inwood, W.Va.; two sons, Wendell Young III of Brentwood, Md., and Howard Young of Brunswick; two brothers, Doug Lewis of Riverdale, Md., and William Lewis of Millersville, Md.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Dixie Abell; and two brothers, Jack Lewis and J.T. Lewis.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Brunswick. Pastor Bruce Barth will officiate.

Margaret E. Boswell


SMITHSBURG - Margaret E. Boswell, 83, of Smithsburg, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Coffman Nursing Home in Hagerstown.

Born March 13, 1920, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Minnie Kuhn Tracey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul T. Boswell, in 1994.

She attended Smithsburg High School.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Smithsburg.

She is survived by one daughter, Jean Merkel of Glendale, Ariz.; two sisters, Miriam Palmer of Bel Air, Md., and Florence Spangler of Winchester, Va.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Boswell; two sisters, Verna Smith and Kathryn Wheeler; five brothers, Merle Tracey, Arthur Tracey, Fred Tracey, Clifford Tracey and Edward Tracey; and two half-brothers, Blaine Wolf and Carroll Wolf.

A memorial service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Smithsburg. Pastor Mark C. Mooney will officiate.
