UNION BRIDGE, Md. - Heidi Stull's RBI triple broke a scoreless tie in the eighth inning, and Shawna Wilkes held Francis Scott Key to one hit while striking out 16 as No. 2 Catoctin stayed unbeaten with a 2-0 victory Thursday in the Monocacy Valley Athletic League.

Kaitlyn Burne drove in Stull with an RBI single for Catoctin's second run. Wilkes improved to 9-0, and has allowed one hit in her last 15 innings after no-hitting Smithsburg on Monday.

Catoctin (13-0, 13-0) handed FSK (8-2, 8-1) its first loss in league play.

CARLISLE, Pa. - October Smith threw a two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts as the Trojans took care of Carlisle.

Jen Swartz's solo homer gave Chambersburg (10-1) a 1-0 lead in the first inning, and Smith had an RBI triple in the seventh.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Jess Miller and Sandra Hall had two hits for Waynesboro (7-6, 5-6).

Hyndman 5-3, S. Fulton 1-5

HYNDMAN, Pa. - Southern Fulton (4-4) bounced back from a loss in the first game to split a doubleheader on Brandy Swope's two-run triple in the second game.

N. Carroll 5, T. Johnson 4

HAMPSTEAD, Md. - Thomas Johnson lost in eight innings to fall to 3-8 - with all eight losses coming by one run.

Samantha Joehl had three hits and Des Harbaugh added a double and a two-run homer for the Patriots.

Brunswick 4, Smithsburg 3

BRUNSWICK, Md. - LeEllen Lewis had two hits as the Railroaders (6-5, 6-5)) defeated Smithsburg (4-6, 4-6) in the MVAL.


West Perry 7 No. 1 Chambersburg 4

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Cody Stum went 4-for-4 with four RBI as West Perry (2-6, 2-5) pulled the upset of the Trojans (9-2, 8-1).

Irvin Sleighter hit a two-run double for Chambersburg.

No. 3 Waynesboro 14 Big Spring 7

NEWVILLE, Pa. - Wayneboro fell behind early, but compensated for it with an eight-run fourth inning and the Indians went on to defeat Big Spring in the Mid-Penn Commonwealth.

Brock Emery and Jeremy Geesaman each had two RBI and Justin Kauffman had two doubles in the inning.

Geesaman finished with three hits and three RBI, while Joe Wetherald and Brian Lisco also had three hits for Waynesboro (10-3, 8-2).

No. 7 Greencastle 9 Bermudian Springs 8

YORK SPRINGS, Pa. - Jared Barkdoll led off the eighth inning with a triple and used smart baserunning to score the game-winning run as Greencastle defeated Bermudian Springs in the Mid-Penn Colonial.

Bermudian catcher Rusty Staub overthrew a toss back to the pitcher's mound, and Barkdoll alertly sprinted for the plate and scored.

The Blue Devils (11-3, 9-1) survived a scare before prevailing for the win, surrendering four runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to the extra frame.

Greencastle pounded out 19 hits in the win. Barkdoll led the way, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Eric Ile and Brett Sellers each had three hits and Nate Kopp added two hits and four RBI.

No. 10 Catoctin 10, FSK 0

UNION BRIDGE, Md. - Danny Novak threw a two-hitter with eight strikeouts to lead Catoctin past Francis Scott Key in the MVAL.

Novak helped his own cause at the plate with two hits, including a two-run home run in the third inning.

Chad Wolfe set the tone early for the Cougars with a three-run homer in the first inning.

Will Delawter and Landon Hillard each had three hits, while Justus Yocum added two for Catoctin (9-4, 9-4).

Smithsburg 2, Brunswick 1

BRUNSWICK, Md - Danny Luiperspeck went 3-for-3 and Ryan Marquiss had three doubles to lead Smithsburg.

Nathan Steelman pitched five innings of no-hit ball for the Leopards (4-6, 4-6) before being relieved in the sixth.

Justin Tucker had the only hit for the Railroaders (5-7, 5-7).

SW Edgecombe 8, Goretti 2

TARBORO, N.C. - St. Maria Goretti fell six runs behind through the first three innings and the Gaels fell to Southwest Edgecombe (N.C.) in the Tarboro Easter Classic.

Paul Angello had two hits for the Gaels (3-9).

Musselman 21, Hedgesville 4

HEDGESVILLE, W. Va. - Brian Woolum had three hits, including a two-run home run in the first inning, as Musselman routed Hedgesville.

Craig Barrett and Craig White had three hits each in the win.

Matt Yurish had two hits for Hedgesville (6-7).

Urbana 5, Frederick 2

FREDERICK, Md. - Matt Kalmar had two hits and drove in two runs for Frederick (3-7, 3-7).

Northern Bedford 6 McConnellsburg 1

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Sara Imler had three hits, including a double, to lead Northern Bedford past McConnellsburg in the Sideling Hill League.

Amber Skiles led McConnellsburg (6-5, 5-3) with two hits and Trisha Seiders scored off a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh to keep the Spartans from being shut out.

Shalom 7, Broadfording 1

Simon Henry struck out 13 and walked none, allowing only four hits as Shalom Christian beat Broadfording, which was guilty of seven errors.

Greg Gamon had a pair of hits for Shalom (5-0) in the Mason Dixon Christian Conference win.

Chris Reed had two hits for Broadfording.
