Fire Department to begin safety survey

The Hagerstown Fire Department will begin its annual community safety survey in early May.

Uniformed fire department staff will visit homes in the downtown, southeast and southwest portions of the city between the hours of 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.

Fire department staff will offer free smoke alarm checks and provide information about the leading cause of fire in Hagerstown, which is unattended cooking.

HCC to host hands-on computer seminars

Hagerstown Community College Center for Continuing Education will offer hands-on computer seminars in May in the Advanced Technology Building on HCC's main campus.


The tuition for each seminar will be $99, which includes both lunch and textbook.

HCC class targets female entrepreneurs

The Women's Business Institute will present "Economic Prosperity! Women and Access to Capital" in May at Hagerstown Community College.

The class delves into the world of lenders and investors and examines the growing awareness among lenders and investors of female entrepreneurs as a powerful but underserved domestic market segment.

The free seminar will be Tuesday, May 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at HCC.
