Roundup - Hose leaves Lions' offense sputtering

T.J. Hose pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out four and walking two, and got plenty of support from four Hubs homers as North blanked Walkersville 9-0 in a Monocacy Valley Athletic League game on Tuesday.

Trevor Hullenger hit two home runs and finished with three hits and four RBI for the Hubs (5-7, 5-7). Danny Zamora had two hits and Zamora and Jeff Decker homered, while Brent Toms doubled twice and Matt Murray added two hits.

Cumberland Valley 4 No. 3 Waynesboro 1

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - Dan Funt had two hits and two RBI to lead Cumberland Valley to a Mid-Penn Commonwealth win over Waynesboro.

Waynesboro's A.J. Freelove (4-1) took the loss despite allowing just two hits in five innings. He struck out five and walked two.


Mike Sanders had two hits for the Indians (8-3, 6-2).

No. 5 Jefferson 9, Keyser 0

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Josh Simons pitched a three-hit shutout, striking out seven as Jefferson stayed hot.

Steve Kozak's two-run double and Dave Pugh's two-run single gave the Cougars (18-6) a 4-0 lead after one inning, plenty of support for Simons, who improved to 2-0. Kozak and Pugh finished with two hits.

No. 6 Clear Spring 7 Broadfording 2

CLEAR SPRING - Zeb Jacobs pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out 12 in a victory over Broadfording.

Leading 3-2 in the fourth, Jacobs gave the Blazers (10-1) added breathing room with a two-run double. Josh Barnhart added two hits for Clear Spring.

Chris Reed had two hits and an RBI for Broadfording.

Sidwell Friends 10 St. James 4

ST. JAMES - Richard Newby and John Gahan had two hits and Newby drove in two runs for St. James (0-8, 0-6 Mid-Atlantic Conference).

South Carroll 9, Frederick 2

WINFIELD, Md. - Steve Tiffany threw a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts to lead South Carroll over Frederick in a Central Maryland Conference game.

Cory Green had three hits, including a home run, and drove in three for the Cavaliers. Tyler Kaus added two hits for the winners.

Cory Rhodes scored both runs for the Cadets (3-6, 3-6).

Grace 15, Heritage 7

Danny Carver went 4-for-5 with a home run and Grace Academy exploded for 17 hits to defeat Heritage Academy.

Jordan Hanft was 4-for-5 and Darren Sweeney added three hits for Grace (5-3). Eric Hess and Jacob Reese had two hits and Mark Derby homered.

Drew Kidd hit a three-run homer to pace Heritage. Jesse Latta had two hits and Zach Hartman also homered.

Highland View 6 Washington Christian 1

Brian Collins threw a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts to lead Highland View.

Collins and Kenny Turpen each had two hits for the Tartans (2-2). Turpen drove in two runs.


No. 6 Frederick 7 South Carroll 3

WINFIELD, Md. - Kendall Blumenthal had three hits, including a triple, and Noelle Jones added two doubles as Frederick rallied from a 3-0 hole for a victory in the Central Maryland Conference.

Amber Bakner had two hits, including a triple, for the Cadets (6-4, 5-4).

No. 7 Walkersville 11, North Hagerstown 8

North built a 7-3 lead through two innings - taking advantage of 11 walks and four hit batters - but Walkersville scored six runs in the third and went on to the MVAL victory.

Julian Stately had two hits and two walks for the Lions (9-1) The Hubs fell to 2-11.


Grier fifth in conference

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. Jacksonville freshman and Smithsburg graduate Ashley Grier shot 78-78-73 for a 13-over 229 to place fifth in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, played at Indigo Lakes Golf Course last weekend. Grier received All-Tournament honors.

Jacksonville finished seventh in the 13-team field.

Shepherd's Bradshaw holds WVC lead

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Shepherd's David Bradshaw held onto the individual lead at two-under 142 after shooting a 72 Tuesday in the second round of the West Virginia Conference Championship, being held at Cacapon State Park. The final round is today.

Shepherd's Chris Butcher is currently tied for 11th with a seven-over 151.

Glenville State's Tim Fisher is a stroke behind at 143, while West Liberty's Mark Daley is third with 144.

Shepherd currently stands fifth in the team competition with 612 points. Ohio Valley (593) holds a 12-point lead over Charleston.


Federal Little League

Kiwanis 15, Alsatia 0: Tyquil Benson and Jeremy Wood combined on a perfect game with seven strikeouts, Benson had two hits and three RBI, Wood had three hits and four RBI and Will Murray added three hits and two RBI for Federal.

West End Little League

Coke 21, Elks 9: Sammy Socks had three hits, while Dwight Boward and Preston Smith had two hits each for Coke.

West End Minor League

Hiser's Concrete 5, Western Enterprise 1: Josh Shingleton, Colby Johnson, Timmy Kitchen and Matt Stambaugh each had two hits for Hiser's.

American Little League

FOP 8, Elks 2: Andrew Likely had three hits, including a homer, while Jerald Tonsil and Justin Myers had two hits - Myers' were both doubles - for FOP. Tyler Ernde had two hits for Elks.
